Landscapes and routes in Senas

Senas is a predominantly agricultural commune in the fertile Durance plain, surrounded by extensive orchards and vegetable-growing areas. Routes, landscapes and historic sites offer different ways to shape a stay. If you are looking for a hotel in Senas, these themes can help you organize your plans: would you rather focus on a waymarked hike, a walk, a bike ride or local history?

Exploring on foot

An 8.5-kilometre route runs along the Durance between Senas and Mallemort and has been developed as a Voie verte (greenway). Along the greenway, there are picnic and rest areas, viewpoints and a car park. For orientation, it is helpful to know both endpoints, the route’s length and the facilities along the way. Check the latest route information before setting off.

A waymarked hike in Senas is called La Cabre et la Pécoule. Check the trail conditions before starting. It is specifically described as a hike on foot, while the Voie verte is characterized by its length and route between the two communes. This makes it easier to choose between a named hike and the greenway along the Durance.

On La Cabre, a rocky outcrop of garrigue, there is a fitness trail for walkers. A footpath has been laid out around the two Malespine lakes. These offer different landscapes for a walk: a rocky garrigue outcrop on the one hand, and the lakes on the other.

The Perrier-Redon cycling route

For cycling, the Perrier-Redon route is another clearly named option. It starts and ends at the Senas Tourist Office, passes through orchard landscapes and offers views of the Luberon massif. This route therefore highlights different features from the walking routes described above: its start and finish, the orchard landscape and views of the massif. Check the route details before setting off.

Chapel, church and historic traces

Today, the ruins of the Sainte-Marie des Méjeans chapel stand on La Cabre hill; a recently renovated lime kiln is also located there. Walkers can also discover rare but clearly visible remains of the former Senas castle.

The Church of Saint-Amand has 19th-century frescoes. Its paintings, baptismal font, holy water stoup and statues were carefully restored in 2009. The local history thus includes both older frescoes and a specific restoration with a confirmed date.

The bridge known as the “Roman bridge” crosses the Canal des Alpines and is dated to 1812. Events in Senas include the Fête votive de la Saint-Amand. As its dates vary from year to year, check the dates for your travel period.
