Mimet Between Hiking Trails and Heritage
Accommodation in Mimet
Mimet combines striking landscapes with a glimpse into local history. Hiking trails and viewpoints draw the eye to the Étoile range and other mountain ranges; the Maison de la Mémoire preserves finds from different periods. Hiking trails, viewpoints and the Maison de la Mémoire offer different ways to spend time in Mimet.
Hiking Trails and Viewpoints Around Mimet
The route to Tête du Grand Puech offers views of Mimet, the Sainte-Baume Massif, the Étoile range and Sainte-Victoire. The snow-capped peaks of the Alps are also part of the panorama along this route. The northern section of the route at Baou Traouqua offers a different perspective, with views of Marseille, the Port of Marseille and the Frioul Islands.
The Piste du Dragon offers another kind of landscape: it runs along a broad ridge trail with views of the Étoile range and a forest path covered in Mediterranean vegetation. Pilon du Roy is a distinctive, tooth-shaped rock formation east of the summit of the Étoile. Its north face on the Mimet side reaches 60 metres.
At the foot of the village, the Glacière de Mimet is a destination for a walk at any time of year. The site lies on a permanently cool north-facing slope. Seasonal forest access restrictions may apply in other parts of the massif.
Trail in May and Walk to the Glacière
The Trail de Mimet takes place every year in May. It starts in the village and heads towards the Étoile Massif; the elite course covers 45 kilometres and includes 2,600 metres of elevation gain. If you would like to plan your trip around the trail, check the dates and programme for the relevant year. Both figures can help with your planning: the number of kilometres indicates the route length, while the elevation gain indicates the height climbed. If you are considering the trail as a reason for your trip, you can take distance and elevation gain into account separately.
A Glimpse into History and Everyday Life
The Maison de la Mémoire preserves early finds from the Celtic-Ligurian Oppidum de la Teste de l’Ost, as well as objects from everyday life in Mimet in the 19th and 20th centuries. Individual exhibits may change. If you are interested in a particular find from the oppidum or an everyday object, ask in advance whether that specific exhibit is on display. This lets you plan your visit around an object in the collection that is particularly important to you.
The Maison de la Mémoire is housed in a restored former stable building dating from the 11th century. If you are planning a visit, check the opening arrangements in advance.
