Pindray combines a strong historical focus with landscapes and opportunities to observe nature. If you are looking for a hotel in Pindray, considering the focus of your stay can help you choose: would you like to explore historic buildings, go hiking or observe wildlife? The local sites and themes offer different ways to do so.

Observe nature and experience the landscape

Pindray is one of six wildlife observation sites provided by the Communauté de communes Vienne et Gartempe in different habitats. Nature observation is therefore a distinct aspect of a stay: the sites share a focus on wildlife while showcasing different habitats. One specific area figure is available for the Grandes-Brandes-du-Greffe site: heather and gorse cover a total of 223 hectares there.

The Les Brandes de Pindray hike also offers a view of the landscape. Starting from the small village of Pindray, it offers a beautiful view; the Les Brandes landscape also includes wooded slopes. These details describe different impressions: the hike’s viewpoint and the character of the landscape area.

GPX and KML files are available for export to a navigation device for the Le Gardour / Boucle 8 route. Before setting off, check that the files are accessible. This digital route information relates to Le Gardour / Boucle 8; the view from the village of Pindray is described for the Les Brandes de Pindray hike.

Building history at specific sites

From the end of the 12th century until the French Revolution, the Domaine de Graillé was dependent on the Cistercian Abbey of l’Étoile in Archigny. The estate includes the Chapelle de Graillé, one of the rare examples of Gothic architecture in this area. One striking architectural feature is its cornice, supported by distinctive modillions. Restoration work may affect current access to the Domaine and the chapel; check current accessibility before visiting.

The site of the Château de Pruniers has been in use since Gallo-Roman times. However, the present château was built in three phases between the 12th and 15th centuries. It was listed as a Monument historique in 1973. This distinguishes the site’s long history from the later construction phases of the present château.

Another historic stop is the Église Saint-Pardoux, a former priory and parish church that was dependent on Lesterps Abbey. Its origins date back to the Romanesque period; the church is also located not far from the Gartempe.

A visit with a theme of its own

The Asinerie des Grandes Z’Oreilles in Pindray offers visits during which Alice and Nicolas share their expertise in donkey breeding and soap making. This sets the experience apart from the buildings and nature-focused attractions: the visit centres on donkey breeding and soap making. When planning your trip, you can weigh these different interests according to whether you would rather focus on cultural history, nature or a themed visit.
