Washhouse and architectural style
An old, covered washhouse stands on the outskirts of La Guérinière. Its stone walls and single-pitch roof covered with tiles give the building a distinctive appearance. A single-pitch roof consists of one sloping roof surface; the term therefore identifies a specific architectural style. Nearby, there is a Chiron in Ménigoute. The washhouse is considered evidence of local craftsmanship and a point of interest for travellers interested not only in the landscape but also in local building and craft traditions.
Hiking landscape
The hiking route to La Guérinière follows hedges lined with oak trees and continues along a wide, grassy path on the hillside. Later, it crosses the Vonne at the Pont de la Barre. The route connects three distinct landscape features: hedges, a hillside path and a river. This gives you a simple way to choose: the washhouse draws attention to architecture and craftsmanship, while the hiking route focuses on the landscape and the course of the trail.
Ménigoute: Nature and leisure
Bois Pouvreau in Ménigoute is a 25-hectare nature and leisure area; 11 hectares of it are water, which is used for fishing. The site has play areas, a boules court, mini golf, a bar-restaurant and a nature-oriented camping area. This makes it easy to distinguish the focus on the water from the other leisure facilities: fishing takes place on the water, while play areas, boules and mini golf are other activities. If specific facilities or fishing are important to you, check the current rules and offerings in advance. The water area is therefore just under half of the 25-hectare site, making its share of the entire nature and leisure area easy to grasp.
Culture in Ménigoute
The Festival de Ménigoute has been held every year since 1985 during the week of All Saints’ Day. Check the specific dates and programme for your travel year if you would like to plan a visit. The Chapelle Jean Boucard is thought to have been built before 1525; in 1862, it was designated a «Monument Historique». This gives you two different points of reference for your cultural plans: the festival period, which recurs annually, and the chapel, with its presumed origins before 1525 and its designation in 1862.
