Rouzède brings together landscapes, architectural and artistic history, and golf. The Vallée de la Renaudie Nature Reserve borders three municipalities, while the Golf international de La Prèze extends across two. Notre-Dame in Rouzède brings together building phases and artworks from several centuries. When planning a stay, it is worth keeping these different highlights in mind.

Landscape and walking trails

The Vallée de la Renaudie Nature Reserve lies where the municipalities of Montbron, Écuras and Rouzède meet and extends for 6 km along the river. The Renaudie stream, which flows into the Tardoire, cuts through granite and schist, forming a relatively narrow gorge that remains entirely in its natural state. The meeting of limestone- and granite-based soils creates a diverse mosaic of distinctive habitats in the area. The gorge, geological transition and habitat mosaic describe different aspects of the same natural area.

The nature reserve has three walking trails, each 3 to 4 km long. These distances refer to individual trails, while the 6 km refers to the extent of the reserve along the river. For nature enthusiasts, both the landscape features and the specific trail lengths are useful points of reference.

Notre-Dame: building phases and artworks

Notre-Dame de Rouzède was built in the 11th and 12th centuries. In the 15th century, a second nave with three bays was added on the south side. This makes it possible to distinguish the original church building from the later extension as separate building phases.

The furnishings also span several centuries: carved-stone baptismal fonts date from the 13th century and have been protected as a historic monument since 1949. An 18th-century altarpiece covers the entire back wall of Notre-Dame. The painting of Saint Roch is dated 1845 and signed “Petiot à Angoulême.” A work of 17th-century folk art is also associated with Notre-Dame in Rouzède. The dates show that the building and its furnishings belong to different historical periods.

Golf in Rouzède and Écuras

The Golf international de La Prèze offers an 18-hole championship course on a site covering more than 100 hectares. The grounds extend across the municipalities of Écuras and Rouzède. The number of holes and championship format give an idea of the sporting specifications; the area and municipal boundary convey the scale of the site. Golf is therefore a distinct highlight alongside the area's natural and cultural attractions.

Plan your stay around your interests

When looking for a hotel in Rouzède, you can first decide what interests you most: nature and walking trails, the architectural and artistic history of Notre-Dame, or golf. This is especially helpful if you plan to visit the nature reserve or golf course, as both extend across several municipalities.
