For a trip to Nantillé, you can focus on art, church architecture, nature, or flying and hiking activities. These different themes can help you organize your interests for your stay when looking for a hotel in the area.

Art and Architecture in Nantillé

The Jardin de Gabriel displays the naïve art of Gabriel Albert, who lived in Nantillé. Life-size cement statues stand in the garden surrounding his small house. Albert created at least 420 cement statues and busts; works created by him can be seen in the Jardin. Here, the small house, garden, and figures come together.

Self-guided or guided visits provide access to the house, workshop, and sculpture garden. The Jardin has been open to the public since 2024. As access may vary by season, check visiting options before you arrive.

The Église Saint-Hilaire also offers distinctive architectural details. The surviving Romanesque south wall of the nave is divided into three bays by flat buttresses. The two westernmost windows preserve a design characteristic of Saintonge Romanesque architecture from 1135 to 1140.

The Gothic choir is narrower and also has three bays. Large buttresses stand along its south side and were probably added in the 15th century. Comparing the Romanesque nave with the Gothic choir makes the different architectural styles within the Église Saint-Hilaire clear.

Nature and Activities

The Platrières de Nantillé offer a different focus: the area includes marl grasslands with water features and a remarkable plant community. In this way, the natural landscape and plant life complement the themes of art and church architecture, so your travel interests need not be limited to built heritage.
