Tallud-Sainte-Gemme brings together riverside scenery, hiking trails, and cultural sites. To plan your stay, you can choose from circular routes of varying lengths, a trail to Lac de Rochereau, and other nature- and culture-themed activities. The routes described differ in length, difficulty, and focus—helpful when deciding which activity should be at the heart of your trip.

Riverside scenery and notable sites

The Maine River is the main river in Tallud-Sainte-Gemme. It runs for more than 11 kilometres from the southern boundary of Réaumur to the Rochereau Dam. The Étang des Landes site is home to a rich and diverse ecosystem. Puy Hardy is considered the highest point in Tallud-Sainte-Gemme, adding a notable elevation to the landscape.

Hiking: two circular routes compared

The “L'Étang des Landes” circular route is 7.2 kilometres long and rated easy. It starts at Place de l'Eglise and offers views of the Puys range, including Puy Lose, Puy Crapaud, and Mont Mercure. This route combines a manageable distance with named viewpoints.

At 11 kilometres, the “Le Point Culminant” circular hiking route is longer; its difficulty is rated moderate. When comparing the two routes, you can therefore focus mainly on distance and stated difficulty: the Étang circular route is shorter and easy, while “Le Point Culminant” covers more kilometres and is moderate.

The two circular routes also have different trail markings: “L'Étang des Landes” is marked in yellow with the red number 1, while “Le Point Culminant” is marked in yellow with the red number 2. Check the trail conditions at the Étang before setting out, and confirm its markings on site.

The trail to Lac de Rochereau

The “Sentier Le Lac de Rochereau” has a different focus from the two circular hiking routes: it is suitable for mountain bikes and connects to the GR® de Pays de Mélusine. The trail leads to Lac de Rochereau, at the western edge of the municipality of Tallud-Sainte-Gemme. When comparing activities, you can choose between the two hikes described, with their different lengths and difficulty levels, and a mountain-bike-friendly trail leading to the lake.

Cultural sites and horse-riding lessons

La Vieille Bruyère is a fortified house where restoration work has been carried out. The private Château de la Bruyère lies outside the “Le Point Culminant” circular route and is therefore not part of its course. The private “Ancienne tuilerie” has a kiln that can be seen from the road.

The Ferme Equestre de la Tuilerie offers horse-riding lessons with horses and ponies. A 2025 tourism listing states that visitors are welcomed year-round; arrange your visit and booking in advance. Riding lessons therefore add another activity to consider when planning your stay, alongside hiking and mountain biking.

If you are looking for a hotel for your trip, the trails and sites mentioned can help you decide on the focus of your stay in Tallud-Sainte-Gemme.
