Saint-Sigismond offers several different starting points for planning your trip: waterways, boat trips, a circular walk starting in the village and a neoclassical church. If you are looking for a hotel, first consider whether you want to spend your days on the water, on foot or with a cultural stop. The options differ in format, stated duration and time of day.

Canals and Boat Trips

The Canal de Reth is more than four kilometres long. It runs through the Coudreau marshes and flows into the Canal de la Vieille Autise. A towpath runs along the right bank; several bridges cross the Canal de Reth, in addition to the Pont de Reth. This waterway brings together the landscape, built landmarks and a historic route.

At the Embarcadère de l’Autize, there are different ways to experience the marshland from the water. Immersive guided trips with gourmet tastings take place at dawn or at dusk. The guided trips use traditional boats called plates. There are also signposted, unguided boat trips lasting one, one and a half or two hours. These durations can help you fit a trip into your day.

Another option is a three-hour canoe route that starts at the Embarcadère de l’Autize, passes through wild marshland and connects three picturesque hamlets. For the 2026 season, “Le marais qui s’éveille” is also planned as a guided sunrise experience for small groups of two to four people. Check booking availability before your trip. The water-based experiences therefore differ not only by mode of transport, but also by duration and time of day.

A Walk Between Marshland, Hamlet and Plain

The “Entre Plaine et Marais” walking trail is an easy, nine-kilometre circular route starting in Saint-Sigismond. The walk is listed as taking two hours and 15 minutes. The route follows the Veille Autise, passes through the small hamlet of Coudreau, crosses a short stretch of plain and then returns to the marshland. This succession of landscapes gives the circuit a different character from the trips on the water.

You can also compare the times with the water-based options: the walk takes longer than the shortest signposted boat route, which lasts one hour; the three-hour canoe route is longer than the walk. This lets you make your choice based on the time available and the format you prefer. Check local conditions for the walking trail before setting out.

A Look at the Architecture

The cultural side includes Église Saint-Sigismond, a neoclassical building dating from the 1840s. This adds an architectural theme to the marshland trails and water trips. Its date and classical style offer a specific point of interest if you do not want to plan your stay solely around outdoor activities.

Plan Your Hotel and Day Together

The Nomad’Trott tour is listed as lasting one and a half hours, suitable for all levels and starting at the Embarcadère de l’Autize. Check booking and operating dates before your trip.
