Apremont: Heritage, Walking Trails and Lac d’Apremont
Accommodation in Apremont
Apremont offers several ways to plan your trip: historic buildings, walking trails along the Vie and activities at Lac d’Apremont. When choosing a hotel in Apremont, you can first consider whether you mainly want to explore the architecture, go hiking or spend time by the water. Local sights range from a monument with figurative depictions to buildings that reveal several layers of history.
Historic Buildings and Their Layers of History
The Croix Hosannière is a four-metre-high monument dating from the 14th century. It depicts an altar server with a lectern for the Gospel, a Pietà and a Maltese cross. A Pietà shows Mary with the body of Christ, making it possible to identify one of the motifs even without any prior knowledge of art history. At the Petit pont gallo-romain, a 3.60-metre-long stone slab rests on two masonry supports. The dimensions and forms of construction reflect different scales: here, a towering monument with religious motifs; there, a bridge whose design is defined by the long stone slab.
The Château d’Apremont also tells a story of change over long periods. It was built as early as the 11th century and remodelled several times over the centuries. The château fell into disrepair in the 18th century, and several houses in Apremont were built using its architectural elements. Reused architectural features are visible on the façades in Val Fleury. The local architectural history therefore encompasses both changes to the château and traces of the reuse of its building materials. The Church of Saint Martin was built in 1902 and also contains a stained-glass window from the 16th century.
The Manoir de la Tuderrière dates from the late 16th century and was built on the site of an 11th-century feudal castle. Heritage listings in 1984 and 2016 concern the façades and roofs of the main residential building; the 1984 listing specifically mentions the courtyard-facing façade and the roof. Guided tours are offered at the Château d’Apremont. Check the dates in advance, as visiting times may change. Apremont also holds the Petite Cité de Caractère® designation.
Getting Around Apremont
Les Trois Châteaux is a 10.5-kilometre hiking trail in Apremont; the walking time is approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes. These details can help you fit the hike into your schedule. The banks of the Vie offer a different kind of scenery: in Apremont, they are characterised by lush greenery and walking trails. When planning, you can therefore choose between a hiking route with a specified distance and walking time and a stroll along the river.
Activities at Lac d’Apremont
The landscaped beach at Lac d’Apremont offers pedal boats and boats, a wake park, an inflatable play structure, children’s play equipment, picnic tables and a restaurant. The lake brings together water sports, play facilities and places to take a break. Individual facilities may change; check what is currently available before your visit.
