Vezot offers two clear themes to help you plan a stay: heritage and walking or cycling trails. The Voie Verte N°3 loop and the Acacia loop start in the commune, as does the “Voie Verte en poésie”. The sights and the different route lengths can help you narrow down the mix of culture and activity you’re looking for. If you’re looking for a hotel in Vezot, you can tailor your stay to the themes you want to explore.

Church and château: Vezot’s history

The Romanesque Church of Saint-Denis was built in the 11th century and expanded in the 13th century; its present layout dates from that period. Its frescoes are among the most significant in the Saosnois for their artistic interest. The chronology shows that the church’s present form should not be equated with the period when it was first built. The building’s history and its wall paintings are therefore two distinct aspects of its cultural heritage.

The former Château de la Cour in Vezot includes a tithe barn, a former gateway and a defensive tower. These three structures have been classified as historic monuments since 7 February 1994. The former château can be seen along the Voie Verte N°3 loop. For anyone interested in historic buildings, it is another specific cultural point of interest alongside the church.

Hiking trails and the Voie Verte

The Voie Verte Maine Saosnois runs for 12.2 kilometres along a former railway line between Mamers and Les Mées. You can travel the route on foot or by bicycle. This offers a different way to plan an outing from the loop trails: its length, the two stated endpoints and the choice of walking or cycling set the parameters. Check current local conditions before setting off.

The “Voie Verte en poésie” is a poetic trail with 15 panels that starts in Vezot. The installation was created by five classes from nursery and primary schools in the communes crossed by the Voie Verte. Its origins give the trail a communal, literary dimension alongside the historic buildings. The Voie Verte du Saosnois also offers views of Vezot and the surrounding wide, agricultural plain.

The Voie Verte N°3 loop starts at the former Gare de Vezot railway station, built at the end of the 19th century. This easy hiking trail is 6.5 kilometres long, with an indicated duration of about two hours. Various poems written by schoolchildren can be seen along the loop. The Voie romaine is also part of a hiking trail in Vezot.

The Acacia loop has a different time frame: this moderate 20-kilometre walking route starts at Vezot town hall and passes through the Saosnois countryside. It is listed as taking four hours. By comparison, the Voie Verte N°3 loop, at 6.5 kilometres and about two hours, is the shorter and easier option. Differences in distance, duration and difficulty can help you choose a route that fits the time you have planned.

Plan a stay that suits you

Your planned activities can be a useful guide when choosing a hotel in Vezot. If you want to focus on building history and frescoes, your priorities will differ from those for a longer day of hiking on the Acacia loop. For a shorter walk, consider the Voie Verte N°3 loop, which takes about two hours; the Voie Verte Maine Saosnois can be used on foot or by bicycle. Choose your location and plan your time around the activities you actually intend to do.
