The Forêt de Bercé and the “Eaux et forêts” route shape Beaumont-Pied-De-Boeuf’s connection with nature. The Château, Manoir and Église Notre-Dame add tangible architectural and heritage history. When planning your stay, the forest area, trail details and historical dates offer different perspectives on the town.

Forest and hiking route

489 hectares of the Forêt domaniale de Bercé lie within the municipality of Beaumont-Pied-de-Bœuf, accounting for 20 percent of the municipality’s area. The forest area gives the landscape a concrete sense of scale. The “Eaux et forêts” route starts in Beaumont-Pied-de-Bœuf and passes through the Forêt de Bercé and the Vallée du Muguet.

It is a Sentier de Promenade et de Randonnée (PR) hiking trail and an easy 13.0 km circular route. The stated time for the route is 3 hours and 30 minutes; actual walking time depends on route conditions and your pace. Distance and duration answer different planning questions: 13.0 km describes the route, while three and a half hours indicates the time required. Check the route details again before setting off, as route information may change.

Buildings and historical context

One of the two original towers remains at the Château de Beaumont-Pied-de-Bœuf. The castle tower is round, built of dressed stone and has three openings, two of which have mullions. It can be dated, at least in part, to the second half of the 15th century.

The Manoir de la Faverie was a fief dependent on the seigneurie of Beaumont-Pied-de-Bœuf and is mentioned as a farm in 1407. The Faverie’s first seigneurial residence was built in the second half of the 15th century or at the beginning of the 16th century. The Manoir has been listed as a historic monument since January 6, 1926.

The Église Notre-Dame was fully listed as a historic monument on July 1, 2015. The listing also includes the high altar, altarpiece and sacristy. The church and the Manoir therefore have different listing dates: 2015 for the Église Notre-Dame and 1926 for the Manoir de la Faverie.

Landscape and cuisine

A menhir is located south of the hamlet of Le Perray, near the River Ire. Its location can therefore be identified both by the hamlet and by the river.

L’Auberge de Beaumont serves traditional and Italian seasonal cuisine, as well as homemade dishes prepared with fresh, local and seasonal produce. Before visiting, check that the seasonal menu and opening arrangements suit your plans.

Planning your stay

When looking for hotels in Beaumont-Pied-De-Boeuf, it helps to decide what to focus on: should the hiking route shape your schedule and day planning, or would you rather prioritize architectural and heritage history? The route details provide a specific distance and duration; the historic buildings have different construction and listing dates.
