Vaiges offers several different points of interest for a stay: listed historic buildings, the history of the Robert-Glétron Collection, a walking trail and a picnic area by the pond. If you are looking for a hotel in Vaiges, you can choose where to stay based on whether architectural history, a walk or time by the pond is important to your trip.

Monuments and the history of the collection

The burial chapel of the Robert-Glétron family was listed as a historic monument by decree on 11 March 2026. Its architecture is inspired by an ancient temple. The Manoir d’Aubigné (ancien) is also listed as a historic monument, since 19 December 1985. Its main construction phase dates to 1521. These dates refer to different aspects: the buildings’ protected status and the construction history of the manor house.

The Robert-Glétron Collection traces its origins to Marie Robert, née Glétron. In 1929, she bequeathed most of her possessions to the municipality. The former furnishings have been preserved in the west wing of the Robert-Glétron house; part of the bequeathed furniture and artworks is kept there. This makes it possible to consider the collection’s origins and the surviving furnishings together as part of the town’s history.

Church and washhouse

The structure, paintings and portal of Église Saint-Laurent offer different historical points of reference: the tower and nave date from the 11th century, while the wall paintings in the nave date from the mid-12th century. The Romanesque portal comes from the former cemetery chapel in Villaines-la-Juhel. These different connections help you consider the architecture in its separate parts rather than reduce it to a single construction date.

Lavoir du Crau adds a washhouse to the history of churches and manor houses. It has an impluvium and two basins; the years 1845 and 1926 are associated with the building. The architectural heritage therefore includes not only religious and seigneurial buildings, but also a structure connected with everyday life.

Walking trail, travel and time outdoors

A route description from 2021 gives the PR® “Circuit de Vaiges et Saint-Georges-le-Fléchard” a length of 9.5 km. The distance helps you factor the length of the walk into your day’s plans. Check local trail conditions before setting out.

Vaiges is very close to exit no. 2 of the A81; its location makes it easy to travel towards Rennes and Le Mans. The former Vaiges station on the departmental railway was in operation from 1900 to 1938, adding a transport-history perspective. The route for reaching Vaiges and the historical connection with the former station offer two different points of reference.

By the pond, there is a picnic area with tables, public toilets, parking and a boules court. It is a separate option if you want to plan an outdoor break during your stay. As facilities on site may change, check local information before your visit.
