Discover Boussay on the Sèvre Nantaise
Accommodation in Boussay
Boussay is shaped by the Sèvre Nantaise: the river flows through the town and creates a varied landscape in every season. Other highlights include the history of the Église Sainte Radegonde et Saint Sébastien, the Moulin du Feuillou, a public recreation area and several circular trails of different lengths. This makes it easy to plan your stay around specific interests—from architectural and milling history to a trail or a break by the pond.
Riverside scenery and town views
The Sèvre Nantaise flows through Boussay and creates a varied landscape in every season. The scenery along the Circuit des rochers includes the Sèvre nantaise, the bocage vendéen, mills and small stone villages. The route therefore combines riverside scenery with a cultural landscape: the river is a point of reference, but not the only feature. Mills and stone villages add built elements to the landscape. Visitors interested in the area will find more here than just one aspect of the scenery.
Church and milling history
The Église Sainte Radegonde et Saint Sébastien was built in 1875 to replace a priory chapel that had existed since 1100. The chapel is distinct from the later church as its predecessor. Inside the church, frescoes depict the stories of Sainte Radegonde, Clothilde and Fortuna. Alongside the building’s history, three named figures therefore feature as subjects in the artwork. The town’s history can be explored in two different ways here: through the succession of the chapel and church, and through the figures whose stories are depicted in the frescoes.
The mills along the Sèvre are also part of the landscape. Among the mills on the river, the Moulin du Feuillou is the only one still in operation. If you would like to factor its operating status into your travel plans, check again before your visit.
Recreation and trails
The Bassin des Lavoirs is a publicly accessible recreation spot with a pond, picnic tables and a children’s playground. Unlike a circular trail, it is a single place for recreation, with a body of water, picnic facilities and a play area. You can choose between a fixed recreation spot and a trail, where the distance is central to planning.
The Murmures de Rochers « Arbre à Palabres » family trail is a moderately difficult walking route in Boussay. It is 2.5 kilometres long and takes around 1 hour and 10 minutes. Along the way, visitors learn to identify tree species by their silhouettes, as well as by their leaves and fruit throughout the seasons. The approximate duration and moderate difficulty rating provide two additional points of reference alongside the route length. The tree theme combines species identification with several characteristics and the changing seasons.
The Circuit de l'eau is a 5.9-kilometre circular trail starting at Place des Marronniers. Flâneries entre murs et murmures also starts there; this circular trail is 2.1 kilometres long. Since both share the same starting point, their lengths can be compared directly: Flâneries is the shorter of the two, while the Circuit de l'eau covers 5.9 kilometres. The route information differs: for the family trail, the length is accompanied by an approximate duration, a difficulty rating and a tree theme; for these two circular trails, the starting point and distance can be compared.
