Saint-Brevin-Les-Pins: Coast, Art and Nature
Accommodation in Saint-Brevin-Les-Pins
Saint-Brevin-Les-Pins offers eight kilometres of sandy beaches for swimming and board sports. There is also outdoor art, maritime history and a range of ways to explore the landscape. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in the town, you could start by considering whether the beach, culture or outdoor activities are especially important for your trip.
Art and maritime history
The Serpent d’Océan is an outdoor artwork from the contemporary Estuaire exhibition, created by Chinese artist Huang Yong Ping. For another perspective on maritime themes, the Musée de la Marine is located in Mindin. It is housed in a former fort built in 1861 under Napoleon III. The collection includes original objects, models of historic and modern ships, and documents from the period.
The “À la découverte des villas balnéaires, quartier de l’Océan” route also combines a visit to the town with cultural history. It is 4.5 kilometres long, is not signposted, and explores the history and architecture of the neighbourhood. The lack of signage is a practical point to keep in mind when planning this route.
Forest, dunes and circular trails
The Forêt de la Pierre Attelée covers 41 hectares, has direct access to the sea and has belonged to the Conservatoire du littoral since 1977. This protected forest has walking trails and a designated horse-riding loop; local access conditions may vary. The area therefore offers a different way to experience the landscape than the beach, without equating the two.
Two circular routes with different highlights are available for walking. The Circuit de l’Estuaire is 10.2 kilometres long and offers views of the Loire estuary. The 12.7-kilometre Circuit du Boivre is for exploring the protected dunes of Saint-Brevin and the preserved Forêt de la Pierre Attelée. The routes therefore differ both in length and in the landscapes described: the first focuses on views of the estuary, while the other takes in dunes and forest. Access to the Circuit du Boivre is seasonal, and conditions may vary.
Cycling and water sports
Another way to get outdoors is the 18-kilometre Vélodyssée/Vélocéan cycle route. It begins in Saint-Brevin-les-Pins at Place Bougainville. For visitors interested in water sports, the Centre Nautique de Saint-Brevin offers sand yachting, catamaran sailing, windsurfing, stand-up paddleboarding, windfoiling, wingfoiling and aquawalking. Activities may vary depending on the season and operating conditions.
The town’s attractions range from swimming and board sports to walking and cycling routes, art and maritime history. You can organise your trip around the activities that interest you most. In particular, bear in mind that access to the Circuit du Boivre is seasonal and that the activities offered by the Centre Nautique may change.
