Yerville: Church, Craftsmanship and Golf
Accommodation in Yerville
Yerville combines a distinctive church history with craftsmanship and its own golf facilities. If you’re looking for a hotel for a stay here, you can start by narrowing down the purpose of your visit: are you interested in architectural history, the restoration of historic monuments, or golf? The following distinctions can help you plan your trip around what the area has to offer.
History and craftsmanship
After being destroyed in 1852, the parish church of Notre-Dame in Yerville was rebuilt by Abbé Robert. Barthélémy raised the bell tower in 1877. This sequence highlights two construction phases: the rebuilding of the church and the later alteration of its tower. Historically, the church was initially under the patronage of Valmont Abbey, and later under that of the local lord. The building history and patronage therefore offer two different perspectives: one describes the church’s architectural development, while the other reflects an earlier historical connection.
The Manoir de Gruchet is considered an important part of the Pays de Caux’s cultural heritage because of its excellent state of preservation and balanced architecture. It represents a different kind of interest in architecture from the dated construction history of the parish church: here, the focus is on preservation and balanced design, whereas the church’s history is marked by specific stages of alteration.
At the Ateliers Christophe Bénard, fine woodworking is combined with the restoration of historic monuments. The Bénard family has worked there in fine woodworking for generations. The workshops hold the EPV (Entreprise du Patrimoine vivant) label and have qualifications and references in monument restoration. The family and their teams welcome visitors to share their passion for their craft. If a visit is important to your plans, please confirm current access or appointment arrangements in advance.
Golf as a reason to visit
Golf de Yerville has nine holes, a practice area and a clubhouse; the course is relatively flat. It is open to beginners and experienced players. Introductory sessions at the practice area, equipment rental, lessons and courses offer different ways to get involved in the game. When planning, you can choose between getting started at the practice area and exploring the other options. For a specific date, check current opening and booking arrangements, as well as the availability of rental equipment, lessons and courses.
Shopping and getting there
La Halle d’Antan is in the centre of Yerville. The tourism guide published in March 2024 describes the shop as a 400 m² food section in a former ironmonger's shop. It lists a grocery store, a wine cellar, a cheese section, and fruit and vegetables. If you’re planning to shop there, it’s best to check current information about the shop and its offerings.
The Espace Sport et Santé de Yerville is easily accessible via the road and motorway network.
