Turretot: Hikes, walks and local history
Accommodation in Turretot
In Turretot, you can choose between walks, longer hikes and historic sites as different focal points for your visit. When looking for a hotel, consider which of these interests will shape your stay. You can compare routes by their length and landscape descriptions; P'tite Balade 1 also includes an approximate duration. This gives you specific information to help plan a stay with shorter walks, a longer hike or time to explore local history.
Compare walks by distance
P'tite Balade 1 – Grand Tour du Centre Bourg is 3.9 km long and takes about an hour. The approximate duration gives you a practical time frame for this particular route. Les P'tites Balades de Turretot include walks of 2 to 4 km, offered by members of the CEME (Commission d'habitants de la commune en lien avec l'environnement). At 3.9 km, the Grand Tour is close to the upper end of this range; these figures make it easy to compare shorter routes. P'tite Balade 4 – Tour d'Ecuquetot can start at the car park at Les Bruyères Cemetery. This possible starting point is another useful detail if you plan to include this particular route.
Circuit des Totems and navigation
The approximately 5 km Circuit des Totems connects the totems in Turretot. The route includes a stop at the Jardin Pédagogique, right next to the Church of Saint Martin. This way, the route combines its totem theme with a specific stop in the village. GPX and PDF files are available to help you plan the route. At around 5 km, it is slightly longer than the Grand Tour du Centre Bourg; its distinctive features, however, are the totems and the stop at the garden.
Hikes through Turretot
The GR21 crosses Turretot from east to west. You can also hike sections of the GR21 from Turretot. The route's passage through the village describes its direction, while individual sections can be considered as separate hiking options. The L'Observatoire des étoiles route also passes through Turretot and is 13 km long. It crosses varied landscapes, including open plains and wooded sunken lanes. Another option is Le Moulin de la Lézarde: this route also passes through Turretot and through varied landscapes between countryside and woodland. The two descriptions offer different landscapes to compare; L'Observatoire also has the specific distance of 13 km.
Church of Saint Martin and Calvary
The Church of Saint Martin dates back to the 13th century. It was originally a simple chapel dedicated to Saint Anne and served people with leprosy. Its history therefore includes its age, its former dedication and its function. Another historic landmark is the Calvaire de Turretot. It was inaugurated on 25 July 1926 at the site where the former church, which disappeared during the Revolution, probably stood. The location of the former church is therefore only a probable identification; the Calvaire's inauguration date is 25 July 1926.
Plan around event dates
The Foire Ă l'artisanat takes place over the Easter weekend, and the Turretot Geek Convention is held in September.
