When planning a stay in Sommery, you can choose from a range of interests: historic furnishings, rural heritage, fishing or insights into food production. The options also differ in the type of visit they offer. The Church of Saint-Vaast and the Ferme de Bray represent two different ways of exploring history; at the Étangs, the focus is on the pond landscape and fishing. L’Escargot du Mont-Fossé offers a guided tour with commentary, while the Ferme de Peau de Leu sells products. This makes it easy to decide in advance whether you are more interested in culture, a specific activity or food products.

Choir furnishings at Saint-Vaast

The wooden choir furnishings are the highlight of the Church of Saint-Vaast: they were carved in 1705 and 1706. The church has choir panelling and choir stalls in the style of Louis XIII. On 20 October 1913, the wooden choir furnishings were listed as a protected movable object. The two dates have different meanings: 1705 and 1706 mark when the furnishings were made, while 1913 marks their protection as a historic monument. This lets you distinguish the design from its later heritage protection, rather than reading both dates as construction dates. If you would like to see the furnishings in person, check the church’s visiting arrangements in advance.

Rural heritage at the Ferme de Bray

The Ferme de Bray – Conservatoire de la Mémoire Rurale is a traditional 16th-century farm with a manor house and a flower park. A permanent exhibition of old tools and reconstructions of traditional rural crafts complements this historic site with objects and activities from everyday farm life. Its focus therefore differs from that of the church: the farm is about rural crafts, while the church is about choir furnishings and sacred design. Check current visiting arrangements and opening hours when planning, as access conditions may change.

Fishing at the Étangs de Sommery

The Étangs de Sommery comprise seven trout ponds amid meadows and a wooded area. Individuals and groups can fish here without a fishing licence. Fishing rods are available to rent on site, where fishing tackle and bait are also sold. When deciding what to plan for, consider both how you will take part—alone or in a group—and the equipment you will need. Check the participation requirements again before your visit. The Étangs are near Sommery railway station and the London–Paris Green Avenue.

Tours and products

At L’Escargot du Mont-Fossé, a guided tour with commentary follows the snail’s development from birth through to preparation. For visitors interested in the food, the tour offers a look at both the start of the process and the preparation. A paid tasting is also available during the tours. The schedule may vary by season, so check in advance when tours are planned. As a different way to explore food, the Ferme de Peau de Leu sells meat products such as ham and blood sausages, as well as farm-raised chicken and guinea fowl. The two places therefore cater to different interests: at L’Escargot, the focus is on the guided tour with a paid tasting option, while at Peau de Leu it is on the sale of specific meat and poultry products. As product availability may vary, check in advance whether the items you are looking for are available.
