The Arques River flows through Martin-Église, and the Forêt d’Arques borders the commune. Protected viewpoints, historic buildings and activities related to hiking, crafts and regional produce each offer a different perspective. If you are planning a hotel stay, you can start by considering whether you are most interested in the landscape, cultural heritage or a visit with a culinary focus.

Landscapes and viewpoints

Two protected viewpoints offer different panoramic views. The viewpoint on the Route d’Eu à Saint-Nicolas d’Aliermont overlooks the plain, the slopes of Palcheul and the village of Martin-Église. Another is on the V.C. N°1 of the Route d’Eu à Saint-Nicolas d’Aliermont; from there, you can see the valleys of the Eaulne and the Arques, as well as the Château d’Arques. The views are clearly distinct: one foregrounds the plain, slope and village, while the other takes in the valleys and château. This lets you experience the landscape from two perspectives without confusing the viewpoints.

The Trail Route · Jean-Paul Villain crosses the landscapes of the Dieppe area, following paths and crossing meadows. Along the way, different types of paths and scenery alternate. The starting point is in front of Martin-Église’s bread oven. If you are interested in this route, its described landscapes and specific starting point are useful details for planning.

Hiking and local activities

The Loisirs et Culture association organizes hikes throughout the year, exploring Normandy’s landscapes. The hiking group meets every second Sunday at 8:30 a.m. in the Leclerc car park in Martin-Église. Since the meeting point and time may change, check the latest information before planning to take part. The association offers a different way to experience the landscape than the named route: with the hiking group, a scheduled time and meeting point are part of the plan, while the route focuses on its designated starting point and the described types of paths and scenery.

Crafts are also part of local activities. A stone-carving workshop takes place in the municipal workshops on Tuesdays from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Participants can make items such as bookends, bas-reliefs and statues. Participation is restricted to association members; check the latest schedule and participation requirements in advance.

Buildings and history

The Église Saint-Martin is designated as protected cultural heritage. It dates from the 12th century and was modified in the 13th and 16th centuries. The Pont de la Vierge is also designated as protected cultural heritage; its history goes back to the 13th, 17th and 18th centuries. The two buildings therefore represent distinct phases of construction spanning several centuries.

Etran offers another glimpse into history: in the 13th and 14th centuries, it was a small landing port for flat-bottomed boats. The local festival La Choule takes place every year in Martin-Église. If you would like to plan your trip around it, check the event dates in advance. At the Monastère Sainte-Marie de Thibermont, the Association Saint-Augustin supports the restoration, care and promotion of the Augustinian community’s heritage, as well as its cultural and humanitarian activities.

Produce and visits

La Grange Saint-Etienne processes produce grown on site: oils from flax, rapeseed and sunflowers; soft wheat and buckwheat flours; and durum wheat pasta. A visit focuses on traditional milling and the production process, from growing flax and grain to serving the finished products. This makes it possible to trace the link between the raw materials grown and the products made from them.

A visit to the Ateliers d’Étran introduces the history, recipe and preparation of caramel de pommes. If you are planning a visit, check in advance whether a time slot is available.
