Boisroger combines church art with walking routes that lead from the coast inland. Église Saint-Nicolas brings together several historical features; after its coastal section, Circuit 6 heads inland to the village. Nearby Gouville-sur-Mer adds a beach, dunes and other historic sites. You can tailor your stay to suit different interests: sacred art and architectural history in Boisroger, or coastal scenery and local attractions in Gouville.

Art and Architectural History at Église Saint-Nicolas

Église Saint-Nicolas houses the sculpture group “Saint Roch, l'ange et le chien.” It is a protected object made of carved, polychrome-painted limestone. The church also has the 17th-century statue “Saint évêque.” The two works of art offer different insights into the church’s furnishings.

The altar and chapel also provide specific historical dates: the retable, or altarpiece, and the tabernacle were made around 1717. The altar and its ornaments were restored in 1878 and 1907. The northern chapel, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, was built in 1838. A church already existed in Boisroger in 1139, though it is uncertain whether it was the same building as today’s Église Saint-Nicolas.

The cemetery cross stands southwest of the church. Its stepped base, pedestal, shaft and cross appear to have been carved from a single block of granite.

Église Saint-Nicolas is listed as open to visitors from Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Check the hours before visiting, as they may change.

Walking Trails and Coastal Scenery

Along the coast, Circuit 6 follows the GR 223 before heading inland to Boisroger. A walking route in Gouville-sur-Mer uses the PR26. The route descriptions have different focuses: Circuit 6 is described as running from the coast to Boisroger, while the PR26 is named for the route in Gouville. The municipal summer walking programme for 2026 took place on Wednesdays and included one event in Boisroger. As the dates vary from year to year, check the programme for the year of your trip.

Nearby Gouville-sur-Mer has a six-kilometre sandy beach edged by dunes. Colourful beach huts line the dune crest. This offers a different landscape alongside Boisroger’s church and architectural heritage: here, the coastline, sand and dunes define the area. The beach huts add a distinctive feature along the dune crest.

Historic buildings and local offerings are also part of Gouville’s appeal. The Cabane Vauban was built from granite and slate from 1744 onwards as a customs officers’ watch house. Moulin de Gouville sells flour made on site during opening hours; availability may vary seasonally.

Accommodation and Planning Your Stay

Gîte de Boisroger is located in a fully renovated former 19th-century rectory. The municipal description lists five bedrooms, including one accessible bedroom on the ground floor.

The local features make it easy to plan your stay around different interests: in Boisroger, the focus is on Église Saint-Nicolas, its furnishings and the Circuit 6 route. Gouville-sur-Mer adds a beach, dunes, the Cabane Vauban and the mill. Which of these themes matters most to you depends on whether you would like to include architectural history, walking or coastal scenery.
