If you are planning a stay in Vironvay, three highlights offer a clear guide: the Sentier des Azurés with its calcareous grasslands, the Panorama de Vironvay above a meander in the Seine, and the liturgical ensemble of the Church of Saint-Germain. There is also a long-distance hiking trail, a cycling route and the Cala Lenna restaurant. This can help you decide whether nature, outdoor activities or heritage should be the main focus of your trip.

Natural surroundings and the Sentier des Azurés

The Sentier des Azurés starts at the Chapelle de Vironvay. Educational panels help you identify the wildlife and plants found on the calcareous grasslands. Signposts and numbered information panels also explain the route and the local wildlife and plants. More than 200 different plant species grow on the limestone slopes; this figure may vary depending on the survey method and timing. The educational and information panels may be updated or replaced.

The site of the Sentier des Azurés is designated an Espace Naturel Sensible and is part of the Natura 2000 network. Sheep and goats are used on the orchid grasslands to prevent them from becoming overgrown with brambles and young trees; the grazing schedule may vary seasonally. The trail is freely accessible, but it is closed during certain periods of the year because of grazing. Check before your visit whether a closure is in effect.

Panoramas and routes

The Panorama de Vironvay is on the left bank of the Seine, above a more untamed river meander. An orientation panel explains the landscape. Access conditions may change, so check them before your visit.

The GR®2 from Rouen to Vernon passes through Vironvay; its third stage runs through the village. The four-day hike can also be split over two weekends, thanks to the railway stations along the route. Vironvay is therefore part of a longer hiking connection that lends itself to a multi-day itinerary or a split over two weekends.

Vironvay is also part of a named cycling route: La Seine à Vélo passes through Saint-Pierre-du-Vauvray to Vironvay and runs by the Sentier des Azurés, on the stage from Poses to Les Andelys. The planning reference points differ: the GR®2 is a four-day hike with the option of splitting it over two weekends, while La Seine à Vélo is the stage between Poses and Les Andelys.

Church of Saint-Germain and Cala Lenna restaurant

The Church of Saint-Germain contains a high altar, an altarpiece and a tabernacle, as well as two paintings. They depict the suffering Christ and the Virgin Mary. Since 23 April 1991, this liturgical ensemble has been listed as a protected object under French heritage law. Alongside its natural and route-related highlights, Vironvay therefore also has a clearly identified heritage site.

Cala Lenna restaurant serves traditional home-cooked food and generous pizzas made with fresh seasonal produce. Check the menu before your trip. Together with the trail, panorama and church, this dining option can help you decide which aspects of Vironvay matter most for your stay.
