Tourville-La-Campagne offers a range of experiences for a stay: Saint-Ouen Church brings together architectural history and sacred art; the Soulanger ponds represent a reshaped waterside landscape and facilities at the large pond. For your planning, it is worth distinguishing between these highlights: public access to the church is limited to specific occasions, while each of the two ponds has its own features.

Saint-Ouen Church: architectural history and art

Saint-Ouen Church is a 17th-century building made of stone and flint. Its bell tower stands on a 13th-century square base. The difference in dates offers a concrete way to explore the building’s history: the church and its base are from different periods. The materials and shapes also provide two distinct points of interest—stone and flint in the church building, and the square shape of the tower’s base.

The furnishings include a 16th-century Pietà and 13th-century baptismal fonts. The Pietà was carefully restored by Marcel Delaunay; traces of its original polychromy have been preserved. Polychromy refers to the original multicoloured finish of a work of art. The Pietà therefore brings together restoration and a surviving indication of its earlier colours. The bases of the baptismal fonts bear the Instruments of the Passion, images associated with the story of Christ’s suffering. These two artistic features offer different points of interest: with the Pietà, colour and restoration are in focus; with the baptismal fonts, it is their age and the religious symbolism of their bases.

Saint-Ouen Church is open to the public during Heritage Days and for religious and cultural events. As event dates vary, check the specific dates before planning your visit to the church.

Soulanger ponds: waterside landscape and visitor features

At the small Soulanger pond on Rue des Canadiens, the focus is on how the body of water has changed. It was renovated at the end of 2017: the pond was dredged, its banks were renewed and it was refilled with water. Wild animal and plant species then returned, and the site was enhanced. For nature enthusiasts, its particular interest lies in the link between renewed banks and the return of species.

The large Soulanger pond is on Rue Elaoufi. It has a small, secure car park and a picnic table. For planning purposes, note which features belong to which location: the car park and picnic table are at the large pond; the renovation and return of wild species took place at the small one. If you want to take one of these features into account, the street names will help you tell them apart: Rue Elaoufi is the large pond, and Rue des Canadiens the small one.
