Discover Routot
Accommodation in Routot
Routot is in the Pays du Roumois and belongs to the Parc naturel régional des Boucles de la Seine Normande Regional Natural Park. Its flax history, historic buildings and self-guided discovery trail offer different points of interest. You can shape your stay around whichever subject interests you most.
Landscape and regional setting
In the Roumois, ponds, hedgerows and orchards are key features of the traditional cultural landscape. This regional perspective complements the focus on Routot’s individual themes: the landscape features represent the wider setting, while the Maison du Lin, walking tour and historic buildings offer specific points of interest in the town. When planning your visit, it is helpful to distinguish between these two scales—the landscape of the Roumois and the themes associated with Routot.
Flax history at the Maison du Lin
The Maison du Lin presents the history of flax, from cultivation and processing to artisanal and industrial uses. The display makes processing the link between cultivation and its later uses.
For groups of more than ten people, the Maison du Lin offers guided tours by prior reservation. An industrial tour is available on request and for a fee. Confirm the arrangements before your visit, as they may change.
Walking tour of Routot
The one-hour “Routot au fil du temps” walking tour is self-guided, takes you through Routot and starts at Place du General Leclerc. It offers a different format from the guided group tour at the Maison du Lin, which requires a reservation: the walking tour is listed as taking one hour, while the group tour requires more than ten people. Check the walking tour’s current access conditions before your visit.
Architectural history and historic associations
The Manoir de Prémare is a half-timbered manor house in Routot, built in the 16th century. It has been listed as a historic monument since February 3, 1928. The construction date and the listing date mark different points in time: the first dates the architecture, while the second marks the start of its listed status.
At the Église Saint-Ouen de Routot, the historic monument status, in effect since January 8, 1910, applies in part to the bell tower. The limitation to the tower is important: only this part of the building is partially classified, not the church as a whole. Unlike the Manoir, the classification here explicitly covers only part of the building.
The market hall reflects Routot’s economic history. It bears witness to the importance of the market, which was considered the third most important market in France in the 18th century. This adds a historical perspective on trade and market life to the architectural history.
Find a hotel in Routot
When looking for a hotel in Routot, one simple planning question can help: will your stay focus mainly on flax history, discovering the town on your own, or architectural history? Once you have decided on your focus, you can choose a hotel to suit the reason for your trip.
