Pullay brings together forest, trails, a listed church building and a strong apple theme. If you are planning a stay, you can choose between time outdoors, the Church of Saint-Gervais-et-Saint-Protais and the FĂŞte de la Pomme et du Terroir, held every October. The commune includes 400 hectares of forest known as Les Bois Francs. The church is dedicated to the twin saints Gervais and Protais. This gives you several specific ways to plan your stay: routes for walkers and cyclists, a building with a clearly defined history of protection, and a seasonal event date.

Trails for walking and cycling

There are two options with different descriptions to consider when planning. The Voie Verte is 8.5 km long in total and runs from Verneuil d’Avre et d’Iton to the village of Les Barils; around 6 km of it passes through Pullay. The two lengths therefore refer to different sections: the complete route and the section within the commune. The section through Pullay is fully paved and open to bicycles, scooters, roller skates, pushchairs and pedestrians.

Another option is the Les Bois Francs circular route. It covers 10.5 km, can be travelled on foot or by mountain bike, and starts in Pullay at 2 Rue des Rossignols. Its route is connected to the Voie Verte and the GR 22. By comparison, the Voie Verte is described in terms of its total length, endpoints and section through Pullay; the circular route is described by its starting address, circuit and length. As route details may be updated, check the information before setting out.

Church and listed status

The Church of Saint-Gervais-et-Saint-Protais is dedicated to the twin saints Gervais and Protais. Two dates and different areas are relevant to its protection history: in July 1932, the south aisle area was listed; since September 2011, the entire church has been protected. The south aisle area has finely crafted sculptural elements on its 16th-century roof. This makes it possible to consider the dedication, scope of protection and specific architectural detail separately.

Apples and the October festival

The FĂŞte de la Pomme et du Terroir is held every year in October. Check the exact event dates before your trip. The activities mentioned include carriage rides, the presence of craftspeople and children from the village gathering apples; individual programme items may vary. The festival combines the apple theme with crafts and activities from the village.

Pullay’s heritage orchard also showcases different uses for apples: it has 16 apple trees trained as spindles for eating apples and 15 half-standard apple trees for cider apples. The number, tree form and use distinguish the two groups of trees. The orchard details complement the October festival with a specific insight into the different varieties of apples and how they are used.

Getting there and choosing a hotel

Pullay is accessible via the RN 12 national road, which connects Paris with Brittany. The Paris–Granville railway line offers a connection with a stop at Verneuil d’Avre et d’Iton station. If you are travelling by train, check the connection that suits your travel date.

When looking for a hotel in Pullay, you can plan your stay around the trails, the church or an October event. For trails, there are two different options: the Voie Verte and the circular route; for a cultural stay, the church’s dedication, protection history and architecture offer their own points of interest. If you would like the Fête de la Pomme et du Terroir to be a highlight of your visit, include the specific event date in your travel plans.
