Le Neubourg: Church, Museums and Voie Verte
Accommodation in Le Neubourg
Le Neubourg offers visitors a variety of interests: historic buildings, two museums and the Voie Verte. If you are considering the town as a travel destination, you can plan your stay around whether you would like to include architectural history, collections or outdoor activities.
Church and château: two historical periods
The Saint-Paul Saint-Pierre church was rebuilt in the 15th century and listed as a Monument historique on 6 August 1938. Its features include a triangular choir, three naves and stained-glass windows signed by Barillet. Saint-Paul Church is nicknamed “Cathédrale des champs” (“Cathedral of the Fields”). The construction history and listing refer to different periods: the rebuilding dates to the 15th century, while the listing took place in 1938. An earlier historical landmark is the Vieux Château du Neubourg, built by the de Beaumont family in the 12th century.
Models, manufacturing and craftsmanship
The Musée d’Ecorché d’Anatomie displays a local collection of anatomical models by Auzoux, made accessible to the public through a donation from the Auzoux company. In addition to the models, manufacturing equipment such as moulds and presses is on display. A second exhibition room features numerous Auzoux models of fauna and flora. Thus, alongside the anatomical models, visitors can also explore how they were made and other subjects from the animal and plant worlds. The museum is open to the public Wednesday to Sunday, from 2 to 6 p.m. Check the opening hours again before you travel.
The Musée des Charrons et Forgerons displays a complete collection of the ploughs manufactured by Henri Bonnels’ company up to 1946. The forge is also still fired up as it was in the past. Unlike the Musée d’Ecorché d’Anatomie, which displays models and manufacturing equipment, this museum focuses on agricultural tools and blacksmithing. This distinction can help you choose between anatomical models and craft exhibits.
Voie Verte and practical information
The Voie Verte between Évreux and Le Bec Hellouin is suitable for roller skating, walking, cycling and jogging. Motor vehicles are not permitted on the route. The Voie Verte is also suitable for people with reduced mobility. From Le Neubourg, it leads towards Évreux, Harcourt or Le Bec Hellouin. This gives you both activities and several directions to consider when planning your trip.
For cyclists, the Pays du Neubourg Tourist Office provides bicycle repair kits, a pump and a secure bicycle parking area. It has been awarded the “Accueil Vélo” label. If you plan to use these services, check their current availability in advance. Bus route 214 connects Honfleur, Le Neubourg and Évreux. As timetables may change, check the latest departure times before travelling.
