Le Fidelaire: Discover Nature and Cultural Heritage
Accommodation in Le Fidelaire
Le Fidelaire offers two distinct themes for a stay: protected cultural heritage and natural areas with special habitats. There are also two past dates for the FĂŞte de la Nature and local hiking trails. If you are looking for a hotel for your trip, you can first consider whether cultural heritage, nature watching or an event date will shape your stay.
Cultural Heritage in Le Fidelaire
The Église du Fidelaire is listed as a historic monument and has been protected as an “Inscrit MH” since 24 November 1961. A yew tree stands in Le Fidelaire’s public square and has been protected as a classified site since 14 December 1933. The two examples illustrate different forms of cultural heritage: the protection of a historic building and the classification of a site containing a protected tree.
Wetlands and Plant Life
The La Fieffe Gérard area features Molinia meadows as well as marshy alder, willow and sweet gale woodlands. At least three amphibian species have been confirmed breeding there: the edible frog (Rana esculenta), the fire salamander (Salamandra salamandra) and the palmate newt. The presence of these species may vary seasonally. For nature enthusiasts, the area offers a tangible combination of different wetland habitats and amphibian populations.
An ecological survey validated in 2010 describes La Noëtte as a woodland pond with acidic, oligotrophic water and diverse aquatic vegetation. Plants mentioned at La Noëtte include the marsh seedbox (Ludwigia palustris), the bladder sedge (Carex vesicaria) and a bladderwort from the vulgaris group (Utricularia sp.). Water levels and vegetation can change; plant populations also depend on the season and local conditions. La Fieffe Gérard is characterized by meadows, marshy woodland and amphibians, while La Noëtte is characterized by a woodland pond and its aquatic plants.
Dry sandy grasslands can also be found at the intersection of the RD830 and RD174 in Le Fidelaire. An ecological survey validated in 2011 lists notable plants there: silver hairgrass (Aira caryophyllea), heath grass (Danthonia decumbens), heath milkwort (Polygala serpylifolia), heath bedstraw (Galium saxatile) and heath spotted-orchid (Dactylorhiza maculata). Roadside maintenance and plant populations may change. In contrast to the wetlands, the focus here is on dry, sandy habitats.
Events and Hiking Trails
The FĂŞte de la Nature took place in Le Fidelaire on 25 May 2025 and 24 May 2026, each time from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. with free admission. The programme on 24 May 2026 included the sale of regional products and the participation of local craftspeople. As programme items may vary from one edition to another, check the dates and details for the relevant edition before travelling to an event.
The municipality’s hiking trails are marked with signs bearing a logo and precise directions. Check the trail markers before setting out. This allows you to make hiking a focus of your trip alongside nature watching and cultural heritage.
