In Le Bec-Hellouin, you can plan your stay around different themes: abbey history, trails or wetlands. The Église Saint-André, a museum of kitchen equipment and an organic farm are also among the places described here. When choosing a hotel, it helps to decide first which of these interests matters most for your trip.

Abbey, Church and Culture

From the 11th century onwards, Notre-Dame du Bec Abbey was one of the most important spiritual and intellectual centres in Western Christendom. A tour of the abbey is offered free of charge. The park and church are open to visitors free of charge; visits to the monument are guided. Visiting hours and access arrangements may change, so check before you arrive.

The Église Saint-André also preserves evidence of the abbey’s history: it houses numerous 17th-century works classified as historic monuments, which come from the former abbey church. The Musée L’Art Culinaire presents an exhibition of kitchen tools and equipment. Its subject is different from that of ecclesiastical architecture and art history; the exhibition may change.

The Greenway and Other Trails

You can reach the greenway from the former SNCF railway station on foot, by bicycle or on roller skates. Le Bec-Hellouin can be the starting point or a stage on this route. The marked and secured 42 km route runs from Évreux to Le Bec-Hellouin and ends in Pont-Authou. If you are planning a section of the route, you can consider the village as either a stopover or a starting point. Local access arrangements may change; check them before setting out.

Since 2019, Le Bec-Hellouin has also been a stage on the Chemin aux Anglais and the Chemin de Rouen. Route arrangements may continue to evolve. Another walking option is the “Circuit Les Bénédictins”: it follows a rural path between meadows to the RD39 towards Monastère Sainte Françoise Romaine. The trails described have different features and destinations, so you can consider them as separate options when planning.

Wetlands and a Farm Visit

The Zone humide du Bec stretches across the communes of Pont-Authou and Le Bec-Hellouin. Its wetland habitats form a mosaic, including tree-lined banks along a watercourse, ponds, grazed wet meadows and tall-grass meadows known as megaphorbia. The dense, diverse flora, characteristic of wetlands, makes the area a particularly important habitat for the conservation of wild animals. This gives you a distinct landscape to explore when planning your trip, alongside the abbey and trails.

The Ferme biologique du Bec-Hellouin sells fruit, vegetables, aromatic plants and processed products grown or made by hand or using animal traction. The farm shop is seasonal, and its opening times may change. You can visit the farm during farm-shop opening hours; check the current opening times before you arrive.

Le Bec-Hellouin can be viewed in terms of the kind of trip you have in mind: the abbey and the works in the Église Saint-André represent its historical and religious heritage, the greenway and other trails offer different route options, and the Zone humide du Bec is known for its wetlands and habitats. If you are looking for suitable hotels, you can compare these interests with the details of specific properties.
