Fleury-sur-Andelle brings together riverside walks, a hiking route and historic sites. If you are planning a stay, these themes give you a concrete idea of what you can discover in town: from the Andelle and the weekly market to the history of the church and local industry.

Walks and hiking along the Andelle

The Andelle flows through much of Fleury-sur-Andelle. You can enjoy a peaceful walk along the river. A hiking route starts at Chemin de la Ferme des Vaux in town and covers 12 kilometres around Fleury-sur-Andelle, Vandrimare and Charleval. This gives you different options: a riverside walk or a hike with a specified distance that passes through several named towns. The route’s starting point in Fleury-sur-Andelle is a useful landmark when planning your trip.

Church and market in local life

The Notre-Dame de la Vallée church was built in 1844. Its bell tower is neo-Gothic and can be seen from several kilometres away. Its construction date and architectural style give the church historical significance; the tower’s visibility from a distance also makes it a prominent landmark. Fleury-sur-Andelle is also part of the continental ZNIEFF Type 2 area “La forêt de Longboel, le bois des Essarts.”

The municipal market has been held every Tuesday since 1843 on Place de la Mairie. Visitors can discover local products there. Tuesday gives you a specific point of reference for your stay: if your visit falls on that day of the week, you can include the market in your daily plans.

Mills and industrial history

Fleury-sur-Andelle’s history includes several sites with different industrial uses. The Moulin de Fleury flour mill stands beside a navigable canal branching off from the Andelle, known as the bras du Héron. In 1805, farmer Charles Lamotte from Charleval founded a grain mill at this site. The town’s history therefore brings together a name from Charleval, the use of water and the development of a mill site.

The Les Jumelles mill was a four-storey cotton spinning mill built over a canal branching off from the Andelle. It was equipped with two undershot waterwheels, powered by a 1.30-metre head of water. The industrial uses of the Saint-Victor site also changed over time: a cotton spinning mill was followed by a cotton spinning and weaving mill, and then the Ondulys cardboard factory. This sequence offers a glimpse of the different types of production associated with these sites.

Menhir and local landmarks

The Pierre Saint-Martin menhir stands on private property east of the municipality, at the edge of Bois Cornu. According to local tradition, until the 19th century newlyweds placed coins in the rock crevices on their wedding day to secure good fortune for the future. This is a historical tradition, not an indication of a present-day custom.

The history of the railway station can also be placed in its historical context: Gare de Fleury-sur-Andelle was built in 1866 by the Compagnie du chemin de fer de Pont-de-l'Arche à Gisors. Passenger services ended on 9 April 1956; today, the building is used as a residence. For practical directions in town, the municipal library is at 9 rue Général Leclerc, 27380 Fleury-sur-Andelle. If you plan to visit the library, check its opening hours in advance.
