Amfreville-sur-Iton: Heritage and walking trails
Accommodation in Amfreville-sur-Iton
Amfreville-sur-Iton offers different perspectives for a stay: heritage, walking trails, and activities such as pottery or horse riding. Notre-Dame Church and Château d'Amfreville represent different historical periods; in the hamlet of La Mare-Hermier, there are also paths for walking. If you are looking for a hotel, a simple question can help you decide: would you like cultural history to shape your stay, do you want to go for walks, or would you like to plan a specific activity?
Church and château: different time periods
In the 16th century, a tower with a bell tower, the choir, and the seigneurial chapel were added to Notre-Dame Church. Its furnishings include a rare 16th-century depiction of the Trinity, which is also among the protected features. Thus, architectural additions and a piece of church furnishing stand side by side as distinct aspects of the area's heritage. The choir and seigneurial chapel also show that the additions affected different parts of the church building.
Château d'Amfreville stands on an island in the Iton and was built around 1775. At the end of the 19th century, the grounds were transformed into an English-style park with winding paths and groups of trees. The château also includes a model farm, built at the end of the 19th century to designs by the architect Roussel. Its barn is considered particularly interesting. The dates clearly distinguish these heritage sites: the additions to Notre-Dame Church point to the 16th century, the château to around 1775, and the park and model farm to the late 19th century. This spans the older history of church construction through to the later design of the park and farm.

The Les Sentiers de l'Iton circular trail starts at the church in Amfreville-sur-Iton. From the slopes shaped by natural forces, it offers impressive views over the Eure and Iton valleys. You can choose between a named circular route that starts at the church and offers valley views, and several paths through a hamlet.
