Loon-Plage: Nature, Water and Flemish History
Accommodation in Loon-Plage
Loon-Plage brings together nature-based leisure activities, seasonal swimming and local cultural attractions; animal encounters at Parc Galamé are offered by the Village des animaux. Parc Galamé is known for its green landscape; Beeo’Aquatique is a biological swimming pool with seasonal access, while Ferme Galamé is linked to Flemish architecture.
Nature and activities at Parc Galamé
Parc Galamé is a nature-based leisure area in a green setting. Walking, swimming and experiencing nature are among the activities available there. Landscape features include a pond and pool, wooded green spaces, a solarium and green dunes; together, they form a habitat with its own ecosystem. The park’s nature theme therefore encompasses both bodies of water and various green spaces.
Around 20 animal species live in the Village des animaux at Parc Galamé, including farm animals such as donkeys, ponies, chickens, sheep and goats. Visitors can pet these animals. The species present and opportunities to pet them may change. Parc Galamé also offers Laserwood activities; availability may vary by season.
The Maison de la Nature has a different focus. It offers free activities for the general public throughout the year, where visitors can discover local wildlife and plant life. There is also an interactive area about bees and the natural environment. Here, the focus is on fauna, flora and bees; at Parc Galamé, the landscape and walks also shape the nature experience.
Beeo’Aquatique: biological swimming pool
At Beeo’Aquatique, a biofilter and plants naturally clean the water. The facility comprises two small pools, 30 to 60 cm deep; two medium-sized pools, 1.20 to 1.70 m deep; and one large pool, 2.50 m deep. The different depths give each pool its own character. There are also inflatable water play equipment and a play area with water fountains.
Swimming access is seasonal; individual facilities may also operate seasonally. If swimming is important to your trip, check in advance which options are available during the relevant season.
Flemish architectural history and traditional games
Ferme Galamé is a farm built in a typically Flemish architectural style. It was built in 1769 and is now considered the town’s oldest residential building. Its construction date places the farm in a particular period, while its architectural style connects it to the town’s Flemish character; its status as the oldest residential building also makes it part of the town’s history.
The Musée des Jeux Traditionnels is devoted to traditional games of the region and the history of leisure activities associated with popular gaming traditions. Players of all ages can enjoy traditional “estaminet” games there. Unlike the architectural history of Ferme Galamé, the focus here is on gaming and leisure traditions, which are not only the museum’s subject but can also be enjoyed as an activity.
Note about the Étang de pêche
