Estreux’s historic buildings and recurring cultural events offer different starting points for planning your trip. You can focus your stay more on architecture and local history, or include an event. If you’re looking for a hotel in Estreux, it helps to decide what you want to focus on during your trip. Check dates and specific programs for your preferred travel period in advance, as individual event dates and offerings may vary.

Chapels, Monument and Church

The Estreux war memorial was inaugurated in June 1923. It consists of a cylindrical stone column with a diameter of 60 centimeters.

The Notre Dame de Lourdes Chapel has stood at the intersection of Joliot Curie and Pasteur streets since 1874. It has been owned by the municipality of Estreux since August 1998. The two dates represent different aspects: 1874 is associated with the chapel’s location, while 1998 marks its municipal ownership. The Notre Dame de Miséricorde Chapel provides another historical point of reference. It was built in 1837 and is a place of popular devotion against cholera.

The Church of Saint Martin also brings together architectural history and distinctive features. It was rebuilt during the Second Empire and has three naves covered by brick vaults resting on Gothic arches. The buttresses at the church are the last remnants of the perimeter wall of a former castle that stood in 1770.

Recurring Cultural Events and the Ducasse

The Jehan Froissart Library organizes an annual exhibition in collaboration with the Atelier du Neufbourg de Valenciennes. A play is also staged in Estreux every year, usually on Sunday afternoons. Film screenings are also held regularly throughout the year in collaboration with CinéLigue. These events follow different schedules: the exhibition and play are stated to recur annually, while screenings take place regularly throughout the year. Before your trip, check which dates fall within your travel period.

The Estreux Ducasse offers another specific date to plan around: the fairground rides are set up on the third Sunday in May at Place du Bosquet. The attractions described include bumper cars, a children’s ride, duck fishing and game stalls; individual offerings may vary. The third Sunday helps you estimate the timing, but it does not replace checking the exact date and program for the year in question.
