The Sentier Dels Galloromans runs through the hilly countryside and highlights Lamillarié’s Gallo-Roman past. The Church of Saint-André de Léjos contains a carved and painted wooden frame with fruit garlands, made in the 17th century; the Church of Saint-Benoît in Frédefond contains the 18th-century painting “Crucifixion”. At the 2025 and 2026 editions of the Grande Bodega in Lamillarié, tapas, aligot, sausage and ice cream were offered.

Hiking in the Hills

The Sentier Dels Galloromans is an eight-kilometre circular trail that starts at Lamillarié’s town hall square. The route runs through hilly countryside. From there, the Pic du Caylou and the Montagne Noire can be seen in the distance; in good weather, the view even extends to the Pyrenees. Eight kilometres is the fixed route distance; the distant view of the Pyrenees depends on good weather.

Roman Road and Historic Traces

The Sentier Dels Galloromans highlights Lamillarié’s Gallo-Roman past: a Roman road came from Albi and ran along the ridgelines towards Castres. Near Lamillarié, at Léjos, an identifiable section of the historic road is almost 200 metres long and more than five metres wide. The remains may be partly hidden by vegetation. Lamillarié’s industrial history includes a brickworks that succeeded an older brickworks founded by Calvet in the early 1850s. The later facility was built in the late 1940s and had a Hoffmann kiln and a chimney more than 20 metres tall. It closed in the late 1960s.

Artworks in Léjos and Frédefond

The Church of Saint-André de Léjos contains a carved and painted wooden frame with fruit garlands, made in the 17th century.

The painting “Crucifixion” in the Church of Saint-Benoît in Frédefond dates from the 18th century. It is protected as movable cultural heritage and was registered as an object on 28 May 1984. The two dates serve different purposes: the 18th century indicates when it was created, while 28 May 1984 is the date of its registration. On the right, Saint Benedict looks towards Christ on the cross; he is depicted with a tonsured head and a bishop’s staff in his left hand. On the left appears the sorrowful Virgin. Thus, as well as the subject, the figures’ positions and Benedict’s attribute can be distinguished. Chronologically, the two works follow one another: the frame in Léjos dates from the 17th century, and the painting in Frédefond from the 18th century.
