Sère-Lanso: Saint-Vincent Church and Le Tucoulet
Accommodation in Sère-Lanso
There are three different ways to explore Sère-Lanso: the history of Saint-Vincent Church, the hike to Le Tucoulet and the commune’s place within a ZNIEFF area. The church offers historical points of interest and practical information about access; Le Tucoulet can be included in your plans from two starting points. You can therefore choose the focus of your stay according to whether you are more interested in historical details, a hike or the ecological context.
History of Saint-Vincent Church
Saint-Vincent Church is a very old church dating from the 12th century and is mentioned in the cartulary of Saint-Pé. It is described as a small Romanesque church and was rebuilt after the 1752 earthquake. The portal bears the date 1754, following the 1750 earthquake. A small chrismon from the 12th to 13th century, partly covered by plaster, is located at the south portal. Since 1983, the ensemble comprising the reredos and tabernacle has been listed as a historic monument (Monument historique).
For a sense of the timeline, it is helpful to distinguish between the references: the cartulary and the chrismon point to the church’s earlier history, while the rebuilding and portal relate to two 18th-century earthquakes. The historical arc thus extends to the listing of the ensemble in 1983.
Access to the church
Sère-Lanso Church can be reached by a footpath at the north end of the village. The key is available at the entrance to the village, from the mayor. As this access arrangement may change, check locally before your visit. When planning, allow for both the walk to the church and collecting the key at the village entrance.
Hiking to Le Tucoulet
A very easy hike suitable for families leads from the village of Sère-Lanso to Le Tucoulet. Another way to climb Le Tucoulet is from Juncalas via the Maison de la vallée. You can compare the starting points when choosing: Sère-Lanso, with its very easy, family-friendly hike, or Juncalas, with the ascent via the Maison de la vallée. The difficulty rating and suitability for families apply to the hike from Sère-Lanso. Check the condition and accessibility of your chosen route locally before making firm plans for the outing.
The commune’s ecological context
The ZNIEFF area Réseau hydrographique des Angles et du Bénaquès includes the commune of Sère-Lanso. The scientific inventory was updated on 12 June 2024. The area’s name refers to the hydrographic network of the Angles and the Bénaquès; the commune is therefore included in an ecological context. This perspective complements the specific points of interest at the church and Le Tucoulet with an overview at commune level. Your travel plans can thus bring together three different points of focus: a historic site, a hike and the wider area context.
