Vaudreuille combines the surroundings of Lac de Saint-Ferréol with a layered architectural history. Large parts of the site, park and Lac de Saint-Ferréol are in Vaudreuille. At the same time, the lake extends across Revel, Sorèze and Vaudreuille, as well as the départements of Tarn, Aude and Haute-Garonne. Seasonal activities at the lake and the commune’s buildings are therefore key considerations when planning a trip.

Lac de Saint-Ferréol and its seasons

A 4.5-kilometre circular trail runs around the lake and is suitable for a family outing. Pine trees provide shade along the route; local conditions may vary. If you plan to walk the trail, it is best to adapt your outing to the current conditions.

In summer, the leisure facility at Lac de Saint-Ferréol offers stand-up paddleboarding, windsurfing, canoeing and kayaking, as well as pedal boating. The time of year also matters for swimming: it is supervised in July and August. Activities at the lake therefore have different seasonal schedules. Check in advance which dates are relevant to your travel period.

Buildings from different centuries

The Saint-Ferréol dam is located within the territory of Revel and Vaudreuille. It is the oldest of the reservoirs of the Canal du Midi and was built between 1667 and 1680. It is protected as a historic monument; it was listed by decree on 13 March 1997.

In the centre of Vaudreuille, on the banks of the Laudot, stands the present-day church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste, built in 1886. It houses stained-glass windows and liturgical furnishings donated by the brother of Maurice Van de Gent, the Bishop of Rotterdam. The donations were made after the cathedral there was destroyed during the German invasion of 1940.

The Chapel of Saint-Martin dates from around the year 1000. Today, the chapel and cemetery are outside the village of Vaudreuille, on a small hill overlooking the village. Near the cemetery, the stone walls and bell gable of a small pre-Romanesque church that belonged to the former village of Saint-Martin de Vaudreuille have been preserved. The chapel contains 15th-century frescoes, which have been listed as historic monuments since 1948. Access to the interior may vary during restoration work.

Architecture and orientation

The Maison Get, also known as the Château de Lancastre, is a large house in Vaudreuille overlooking Lac de Saint-Ferréol. It was completed in 1902; parts of its interiors were designed in the Art Nouveau style. Another architectural form combines several practical functions: a bridge in Vaudreuille incorporates a washhouse and a livestock watering trough. This rare, well-preserved structure thus brings three functions together in a single construction.

An orientation table is located above the gliding centre on Chemin d’En Roujou. The former National Gliding Centre of the Montagne Noire also extends into Vaudreuille. Together with the historic buildings and the changing seasons at the lake, these offer a range of starting points for planning your stay in Vaudreuille.
