Discover Lasserre: Church Art and Walks
Accommodation in Lasserre
There are several themes to consider when planning a stay in Lasserre: the Église Saint-Martin and its layered building history, organised walks and horse rides, and community garden and cultural activities. If you are looking for a hotel, your interests and the specific dates can help you decide what to focus on during your trip.
Église Saint-Martin: Building History and Features
The Église Saint-Martin was built between 1534 and 1541 on the site of a chapel dedicated to Sainte Radegonde in the Fort of Lasserre. The Gothic church is built entirely of red-orange bricks. A later addition is the octagonal bell tower, added shortly before the French Revolution. The construction and extension thus mark different periods in the building’s history.
The furnishings also include works from different centuries. A small polychrome stone Pietà, dating to around the 13th century, is set into the wall of the nave. The gilded Baroque altarpiece, made of limewood, was created in 1705 by sculptor Gabriel Rossat. The altarpiece is listed as a historic monument. The approximately dated Pietà and the work precisely dated to 1705 offer different chronological reference points for viewing the church.
Walks, Forêt de Bouconne and Horse Rides
The Foyer Rural walking group organises family walks around the surrounding villages once a month. They take place on Saturday afternoons or Sunday mornings. As these are recurring club events, check the current dates before your visit. As another activity, the walking group leads walkers on a moonlit walk into the heart of the Forêt de Bouconne; here too, it is worth checking the latest dates.
For horse rides, the Écurie d’En Cayla in Lasserre offers another option. At the Écurie d’En Cayla, the Forêt de Bouconne provides a suitable setting year-round for both beginners and experienced riders. The Écurie also offers themed rides. The activities therefore differ in type and occasion, including family walks, a moonlit walk and horse-riding activities.
Two walking times are also given for getting to the Écurie d’En Cayla: it is less than a 40-minute walk from Mérenvielle station and less than a 20-minute walk from the LASSERRE-PRADÈRE – Mairie-Écoles bus stop. The stop is served by the Lasserre–Montaigut/Save–Toulouse routes. Check current routes and bus connections before travelling.
Gardens, Market and Cinema in Lasserre-Pradère
The Les Jardins d’En Plume community gardens are next to the tennis courts. Activities include community gardening, a permaculture trial plot and training sessions. Open days take place in spring and autumn. For those interested in community gardening and permaculture, these garden days and training sessions are practical options to consider when planning a trip.
In Lasserre-Pradère, the Marché du Buv’Art is held every Friday evening from 18:00 to 19:30 in the former school, opposite the Le Buv’Art community café. The market offers products from around twenty local producers; the products available may vary. Check the date before your visit. Also in Lasserre-Pradère, the Foyer Rural cinema programme takes place at the Salle du Temps Libre: from September to June, two films are shown on one Friday evening each month. The schedules differ when choosing dates: the market is weekly, the cinema is monthly during its season, and the garden days take place in spring and autumn. Check the current cinema dates before travelling.
