Solomiac brings together architectural history, routes along the Gimone and routes to dovecotes. If you are looking for a hotel in Solomiac, these themes can help you plan your stay around your interests: Would you like to explore the history of the bastide, choose an educational nature trail or discover dovecotes along a route? The market hall, church and routes offer concrete starting points for doing so.

Market Hall and Church

Solomiac’s market hall was listed as a historic monument by a decree dated 22 March 1973. It may date from the 14th century. Before the current building, the market hall also served as the town hall.

The present-day church has stood in the same location since the bastide was founded in 1323. Its octagonal bell tower, topped with a spire, rises on the north side above the choir rather than above the entrance. The market hall and church can be viewed through different historical reference points: for the hall, the focus is on its possible date of origin and its former role as the town hall; for the church, on its location since the founding of the bastide.

The rural heritage includes the Camusat dovecote in Solomiac. It is classified as a dovecote with a circular ground plan.

Routes along the Gimone and to the Dovecotes

The Sentier Découverte de la Gimone educational nature trail runs along the Gimone in the commune of Solomiac. The freely accessible circular route is 3 km long; there is also a shorter 1.7 km loop. Topics range from water and soil to fauna, flora, biotopes and ecosystems, as well as sustainable development. The trail is suitable for a wide audience and, thanks to an educational booklet, is particularly well suited to children from primary-school age through lower secondary school (collège), as well as families.

The range of topics spans individual elements of nature, such as soil and habitats, through to broader ecological relationships; sustainable development widens the perspective further.

The Sentier des pigeonniers has a different focus. Along this route, you can discover, in particular, the dovecotes of Narrosse, En-Cazeneuve, En-Naliotte, En-Naubrie, Géry and Grandeborde near Solomiac. On the return leg, the route follows the banks of the Gimone to the bastide and ends at the washhouse. The difference between the Sentier Découverte and this route is their focus: the former explores nature and environmental themes, while the latter centers on dovecotes and the return to the bastide.

Market Entertainment and Leisure Complex

Each market in Solomiac begins with a performance, such as one by a music group, a singer, or a Zumba or country dance demonstration, or featuring a magician or a banda. This is followed by a disco ball for dancing. The entertainment program may vary.

Solomiac’s leisure complex includes several outdoor pools for play and swimming, the Toboggan Jet-Gliss slide, which is over 10 metres high, and 13 other slides for all age groups. The leisure complex is closed during the 2026 season. If you are planning a visit later, check the latest information in advance.
