Nant brings together the landscapes of the Grands Causses with hiking trails and attractions focused on history, film and regional produce. If you are looking for a hotel in Nant, you can tailor your stay to whether you mainly want to explore the gorges and trails, include some culture in the village or discover local produce. For comparing walks, specific distances in kilometres are available; seasonal guided tours, on the other hand, take place on a particular day of the week.

Landscapes and trails

From Nant, the Dourbie flows through the limestone cliffs of the Grands Causses, carving out gorges with steep sides. These separate the Causse Noir from the Causse du Larzac.

The booklet “Sentiers Pédestres Vallée de la Dourbie, Causse du Larzac” features eleven circular walks starting from Nant. They range from eight to 22 kilometres, a difference of 14 kilometres that makes the route lengths easy to compare. The panoramic views described extend across the Causses, the surrounding valleys and the Cévennes massif.

The “Chemin de l'eau et du Patrimoine” interpretation trail in Nant has 18 information panels. 17 are in the village area; the 18th is at the source of the Durzon, about six kilometres from the village centre.

Dippers are found in the rivers around Nant. Beavers were reintroduced into the Dourbie in 1987.

Culture and visits

The Halle de Nant was rebuilt as a rectangular structure in 1706 and 1707. It is 30 metres long and eight metres wide, and has twelve pillars and a round-arched arcade.

The Eglise-abbatiale St Pierre de Nant can be visited free of charge on a self-guided tour from 1 January to 31 December 2026. Check the visiting arrangements before your trip.

In summer, guided tours of the medieval village centre are offered on Sundays only; each lasts 1.5 hours. As the tours are seasonal, it is advisable to check the latest dates before your trip.

Le petit musée du Cinéma et sa Galerie displays rare and unique objects from film history, including equipment belonging to a leading French cinematographer. The combination of film-related objects and camera equipment also draws attention to the material side of film history.

Produce and local offerings

The Boutique et bistrot paysan sells farm produce directly to customers. The bistro serves products from the shop as well as locally roasted Fairtrade coffee. Opening arrangements may vary seasonally; check in advance.

In Nant, Les Aromatiques d’Homs grows aromatic plants in a protected setting. The Parc Naturel Régional des Grands Causses offers plantation visits, processing workshops, a shop and tastings.
