In Vittel, different interests can easily shape your stay: thermal heritage and architectural history, water as the subject of an interactive exhibition, as well as hiking and golf. When looking for a hotel, these interests can provide a starting point. Two venues are dedicated to thermal heritage, while La Vigie de l’Eau explores water in a broader social context. Hiking trails, the park and golf offer their own highlights for visitors planning to spend time outdoors or take part in a sporting activity.

Thermal History and Architecture

The Maison du Patrimoine et du Thermalisme presents photographs, objects relating to the thermal heritage, and reconstructed scenes of thermal treatments from the past. Images and objects are displayed alongside staged scenes. If you are particularly interested in the history of thermal treatments, this focus offers an insight into past treatments. The Maison also offers guided tours with commentary. Check their dates and conditions before your visit so you can include a tour in your plans.

The Grande Galerie Thermale also explores thermal heritage, with a focus on the building’s origins. It was built in three phases: 1897, 1901 and 1905. Beneath the gallery is a free exhibition explaining the building’s origins and development. This puts architecture and the construction process at the heart of the visit, while the Maison presents aspects of thermal heritage and treatments from the past. As visitor arrangements may change temporarily, it is advisable to check the current conditions in advance.

Water and the Environment at La Vigie de l’Eau

La Vigie de l’Eau offers a different perspective on water. The permanent interactive exhibition explores the journey of water through societies. Unlike the venues focused on thermal history and architecture, this one centres on the social role of water. Its offerings also include educational workshops throughout the year and outings to explore the environment. This makes it possible to combine the exhibition with an educational activity focused on environmental issues. Dates and booking requirements may vary; check what options are available for your visit before making plans.

Hiking, the Park and Golf

Vittel has 200 kilometres of trails for solo hikers, families and experienced hikers. These groups range from people travelling alone to families and experienced hikers. Check trail conditions before setting out. Parc de Vittel covers 650 hectares. This figure describes the park, whereas the number of kilometres refers to the hiking trails: the two figures use different measurements and should not be understood as describing the same area.

The Golf de Vittel Ermitage adds a sporting activity with its own history to the options. It was built in 1905 and is considered the second golf course to be established in France. Offerings include lessons, equipment hire, beginner and advanced courses, and casual play. You can therefore choose between lessons, a course and casual play when deciding what part golf will play in your stay. Check the current services before booking.
