Scy-Chazelles offers a range of options for planning your trip: the legacy of Robert Schuman, church architecture, gardens and nature, as well as wine-growing traditions and trails. You can choose the themes that interest you most during your stay.

Maison de Robert Schuman

The Maison de Robert Schuman has been managed by the Moselle Department since 2000. The estate includes a residence, a large garden and a manor house dating from the late Middle Ages. Since 9 May 2000, the Maison has been a memorial site open to the public year-round. The museum area is fully accessible to visitors with reduced mobility thanks to a lift. The Maison also holds the “Maison des Illustres” label.

The program includes recreational and educational workshops for children aged 5 to 12. Cultural events include European Week in May and concerts. If you would like to plan your visit around a concert or European Week, check the dates in advance.

Churches and Remembrance

The Église Saint-Quentin was built in the 12th century by the monks of Gorze Abbey; Robert Schuman is buried there. The Église Saint-Rémi offers a different architectural perspective, with a style that is partly Romanesque and partly Gothic. The two churches thus represent different aspects of local history: Saint-Quentin combines architectural history with Schuman’s burial place, while Saint-Rémi is distinguished by its blend of two architectural styles.

Views, Nature and Gardens

Place de l’Esplanade offers a viewpoint overlooking the city of Metz and the Moselle Valley. Five urban or short hiking trails start there. This gives you a convenient starting point for choosing between a city walk and a short hiking route.

Other themes converge on Mont Saint-Quentin: the site has military remains as well as calcareous grasslands and wild orchids. Those interested in the landscape will find both natural features and traces of military history here. The Jardin des plantes de chez nous also overlooks the Moselle Valley. Its character includes forgotten plants developed by some of the most prominent garden designers of the early 20th century. The Parc Ecologique et de la Biodiversité is home to a wide variety of plant and animal species, as well as a small vegetable garden with perennial plants.

Wine Traditions and Planning Your Routes

Scy and Chazelles were once wine-growing villages and have regained the AOC “Vins de Moselle” designation. The Route des vins de Moselle also passes through Scy-Chazelles; its passage through the area was inaugurated there in 2014. These are two distinct aspects: the villages’ historic connection to wine-growing and a wine route whose passage through Scy-Chazelles has its own inauguration date.

For your journey, the Metz’O 1 river shuttle connects Metz city centre with Scy-Chazelles and Moulins-lès-Metz. Bicycles and scooters can be taken on board. As operating periods may change seasonally, check the timetable before planning your trip. This lets you take the shuttle and bringing your bicycle or scooter into account without assuming that this option corresponds to a particular route in the area.
