If you’re looking for a hotel in Rombas, it helps to consider the different aspects of a stay: views and industrial history, trails through forests and countryside, or cultural offerings. The town brings these themes together, but they don’t describe the same travel experience. So think about which places and activities matter to you during your stay, and tailor your search accordingly.

Views and industrial history

The Tour de Drince is a 25-metre-high metal tower at an elevation of 390 metres. The two figures describe different measurements: 25 metres is the height of the tower, while 390 metres is the elevation of its site. From there, you can enjoy a 360-degree panorama over the Orne, Fensch and Moselle valleys. The view extends several dozen kilometres beyond the borders of Luxembourg and Germany.

The structure also makes the Tour de Drince a testament to industrial history: it was built using steel from Rombas’s now-vanished plant and represents the expertise of the Lorraine steel industry. The view and the origin of the material are two distinct aspects of the site, both immediately evident at the tower.

Traces at the CĂ´te de Drince and in the Fond Saint Martin

The CĂ´te de Drince offers a way to explore different periods of history. Traces of human presence dating to around 15,000 BC were discovered at the Les Roches site on its slopes. On the heights, you can come across remains of a Mediomatrici camp dating from the 3rd or 2nd century BC while out walking. Check local access conditions before your visit.

The forest valley covers 400 hectares; birdlife is a focus in the Fond Saint Martin. There is an educational ornithological trail there, developed in collaboration with the Ligue pour la Protection des Oiseaux.

Trails for different itineraries

The Voie verte du Fil bleu de l’Orne runs for 23 kilometres from Rombas to the Moineville leisure centre. It is completely flat and follows its own route, separate from other traffic. It is open to all non-motorised forms of transport. Its length, route and surface give you a concrete basis for deciding how to include this trail in your stay.

Another hiking option is the GR5F stage from Rombas to Plappeville: it is signposted as a hiking route and marked with the white-and-red GR blazes. While the Voie verte is defined by its 23-kilometre length and flat, traffic-free route, the GR5F is distinguished by its stage and marking colours. This makes it easy to tell the two route descriptions apart based on the planning details provided for each.

Cultural offerings throughout the year

The Médiathèque La Pléiade hosts performances and events throughout the year. Its offerings include books, comics and manga, as well as board games and video games, magazines, music and films. If you’re planning a visit, check the current programme. The seasonal highlight is Les Estivales: since 2003, the town of Rombas has offered free public events in summer as part of this series.

The Môm Théâtre programme at the Maison de l’Enfance includes storytelling, theatre, puppetry and circus. Separately, the Maison de l’Enfance offers places in social, educational and cultural activities for children aged four and over. These details can help you include cultural offerings and their respective focuses in your travel plans without confusing them with the hiking and landscape themes.
