Seigneulles brings together architectural history, historic water management and village events. Notable highlights include the fortified Église de la Nativité Notre-Dame, the Fontaine Saint-Nicolas and the Marche au clair de lune, with its approximately five-kilometre circular route. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Seigneulles, these different highlights can help you plan: they range from architecture and local history to walking routes and events.

Church and architectural history

The Église de la Nativité Notre-Dame is a fortified church with turrets, loopholes and firing windows. Its construction phases date from the 16th and 18th centuries. By decree dated 16 July 1991, it was listed as a historic monument. The church is therefore a distinct local landmark for travellers who would also like to plan their stay around the architecture and history of Seigneulles.

Fontaine Saint-Nicolas and water management

The Fontaine Saint-Nicolas is located beside the road, below road level. Two stairways lead down to a paved area; these steps are a practical consideration when planning your route. The fountain is fed by one of the sources of the Chée. Its water supplied the livestock watering troughs and the paved Gayoir, which was once used to care for horses’ legs. The overflow was channelled to the washhouse built in 1881. The Gayoir’s historic use is explicitly a thing of the past.

Walking route and events

The Marche au clair de lune, organised by the P’TiT Four association, is an annual event in the village of Seigneulles. Its circular route is approximately five kilometres long. At the Marche, volunteers prepared soups and crêpes, which proved popular; the food on offer may vary from one edition to another. If you would like to plan your stay around the event, check the date of the relevant edition.

The Fête de la Paroisse, organised by the Saint-Jacques-de-la-Aire parish, also provides a date to plan around: for several years, it has been held on the first weekend in June and has included Seigneulles. At the 15th edition, a walking group reached Seigneulles, while the cyclists set off from Foucaucourt. A mini-rally to explore the village ended at the Four à Pains; the event concluded with refreshments and sugar cake. If you would like to plan your trip around this festival, confirm the date of the relevant edition in advance.

Studio and art

Since September 2021, Seigneulles has been home to Léo Cappuccio’s studio for stone sculpture, restoration and contemporary design. Art by Léo Cappuccio can be seen at his studio at 13, rue de Bumont. This adds a contemporary art highlight to the historic themes of the church and fountain. If you would like to include a studio visit as a fixed part of your itinerary, check visiting arrangements in advance.
