Toulouges: Churches, Park and Walks
Accommodation in Toulouges
Toulouges offers several ways to shape your stay: Romanesque architecture, green spaces, art along the streets, themed walks and recurring events. If you are looking for a hotel in Toulouges, you can plan your trip around whichever of these interests you most. The places and activities differ in whether you want to visit historic buildings, spend time outdoors or plan a specific walking route.
Churches and architectural history
The main construction phase of the Église de l'Assomption de la Vierge dates to the 11th century; its Romanesque portal is made of white marble. The church entrance also features the 18th-century Calvaire, which has been listed as a historic monument since 24 October 1927. This site brings together several historical points of interest: the main construction phase, the portal and the Calvaire.
At the Église Sainte-Marie, six pink marble steps allow visitors to approach the Romanesque portal and admire its sculptures. The two sites therefore offer different architectural highlights: white marble at the portal of the Église de l'Assomption, and pink marble on the steps of Sainte-Marie. Access arrangements at Sainte-Marie may change during restoration work; check the latest visitor information before your visit.
The Beffroi Républicain adds a civic bell tower to the church sites. It was built at the beginning of the 20th century and is a powerful symbol of the Republic. Toulouges thus brings together religious architectural history and a civic symbol with its own historical significance.
Green spaces and outdoor art
Parc de Clairfont covers 5 hectares of green space around a body of water. The park also has two small ponds, and 100 Mediterranean plant species have been recorded there. If you want to include natural features in your plans alongside historic buildings, the park offers a distinct focus on its waters and plants.
Parc de Clairfont also has a children's play area for children aged 3 to 12. As facilities may change, check the latest information before your visit if needed. You can take the play area into account when planning without making it the sole focus of your visit to the park.
Les Arts en Balade features 17 works along the streets of Toulouges; the number may change as works are added or removed. The works along the route are numbered, and QR codes on site open the pages for the corresponding works. The numbering and QR codes help you identify individual works during your visit and learn more about them.
Walks and reasons to visit
“Toulouges au fil de l’eau” is an easy, 10-kilometre circular walk starting in Toulouges. It is one of three themed walks designed to help visitors rediscover Toulouges and its heritage. Its stated distance and difficulty rating can help you decide whether the route suits your travel plans; check trail conditions before setting out. The circular walk has a specific distance, while Les Arts en Balade is followed by way of numbered works and QR codes.
Nit de Sant Joan is celebrated every year on 23 June; the programme may change. If you are planning your trip around the celebration, check the latest programme details for your chosen date. Another recurring point of reference is Toulouges’ commitment to peace: every year, it is commemorated at the foot of the stele erected on el Camp de Maig.
