Osséja lies at an altitude of 1,200 metres at the foot of the Puigmal Massif and is part of the Parc Naturel Régional des Pyrénées-Catalanes. Its mountain setting and its inclusion in the regional nature park give the town a distinct natural setting. When planning a hotel stay, you can choose from a range of highlights: local history and art, hiking, the lake, or a visit to the cinema or the summer event Festi' lac.

Culture and local history

A permanent exhibition in honour of Daniel Delestré opened in 2026. Delestré was a prominent figure in the community, was passionate about cinema and served as mayor from 2001 to 2019. The exhibition is on the first floor of the community centre, next to the entrance to the Le Puigmal cinema. Admission is free and open to the public; check current access arrangements before your visit.

The Église Saint-Pierre d’Osséja contains a painted panel from a polyptych depicting Saint Sebastian, Saint Anthony the Abbot and John the Baptist. The panel has been classified as a protected cultural object since 10 September 2012. The former church of Osséja also has a long history: it has been mentioned since the 9th century, in Carolingian times.

Lake and summer activities

Below Osséja lies the lake, a tranquil body of water with several landscaped areas, including picnic and barbecue spots. In summer, pedal boats, inflatable play equipment and a green leisure area are also available. Pedal boats and play equipment are seasonal offerings. If these activities are important to your trip, take their summer availability into account when planning.

Hiking trails in Osséja

Thirteen hikes are listed in the Osséja forest. Check the local availability of the routes before setting out. Two hiking guides are also sold at Osséja Town Hall. Check their availability in advance if you would like to use one of the volumes to plan your hike.

One route with specific details is PR 86, “La Boucle des Orgues”: this very easy circular hike in Osséja is 5.4 kilometres long and takes two hours. The route leads to unusual sculptures in the Catalan mountains, shaped over time by erosion. The distance and duration give you a guide for planning your time; check the route conditions before setting out.

The PR 92 hiking route, “La Marche des Contrebandiers,” runs from Osséja along the Vanéra to Castellar de n’Hug. The two routes offer different options: PR 86 focuses on a circular route, distance and duration, while PR 92 leads from Osséja to Castellar de n’Hug.

Cinema and event dates

Le Puigmal cinema is open year-round from Tuesday to Sunday. Festi' lac takes place in Osséja every year during the third week of August. These provide different timing options for planning your trip: check the opening hours in advance for a cinema visit; if you are travelling for Festi' lac, check the exact dates for your chosen travel year.
