If you are looking for hotels for a trip to Nohèdes, planning your hikes can provide a concrete starting point for your stay. The hikes vary considerably in duration, elevation gain, difficulty and season, making it possible to match your choice of route to the amount of time you have in mind. The National Nature Reserve and the Romanesque Church of Saint-Martin add natural and architectural history to the hiking experience.

Hiking by Duration and Season

The L’Estany del Clot route is rated moderate, takes more than five hours and has an elevation gain of 700 metres; it is listed as suitable from April to November. Le Roc Negre is a difficult hike that takes ten hours and has an elevation gain of 1,490 metres. Its listed season runs from June to October. The easy La Goutte d’eau route is listed as taking an hour and a half, with an elevation gain of 150 metres, and is available year-round.

These differences help you compare the scope of the hikes: La Goutte d’eau is the shortest and easiest of the three routes listed, while Le Roc Negre has the longest duration and greatest elevation gain. The seasonal windows also differ. A longer period is listed for L’Estany del Clot than for Le Roc Negre; La Goutte d’eau is listed as available year-round. When planning, you can take both the time required and the stated season into account.

The Circular Hike to Gorg Estelat

Another specific option is the Nohèdes–Gorg Estelat hike: a difficult 13.4-kilometre circular route starting in Nohèdes. The trail offers views of mountain lakes and gives an impression of the nature reserve’s biodiversity, pastoral activity and Pyrenean landscape. The route description thus combines a clear distance with a variety of landscape and nature experiences. As route conditions and access rules may change, check them before setting out.

Nature Reserve and Floral Diversity

The Nohèdes National Nature Reserve was established in 1986 because of the exceptional biodiversity developing there. Its floristic inventory now includes nearly 900 taxa. The floristic inventory for the municipality of Nohèdes includes nearly 1,200 taxa. The two figures refer to different areas: the nature reserve on the one hand and the municipal area on the other. This distinction matters when comparing the figures; they should not be read as two measurements of the same area.

Romanesque Church and Visible Bread Ovens

The Church of Saint-Martin is a classic Romanesque church with a single nave and a semicircular apse. Its entrance is marked by a double triumphal arch. The term nave refers to the church’s longitudinal space; here, the apse forms the semicircular end. In addition to these features of the church’s architecture, bread ovens are still visible on some houses. They project from the buildings and provide another distinctive architectural detail in the village.

Parking and Paths in the Surrounding Area

Visitors are advised to use the designated parking areas in Montilla or at the entrance to Nohèdes. Parking is not permitted anywhere outside these two areas. Access to the nature reserve is a separate matter: motor vehicles are prohibited from entering the Nohèdes National Nature Reserve beyond Montilla. Paths in the vicinity of Nohèdes lead on foot to Urbanya and to the hamlet of Betllans in the municipality of Conat. These two destinations are described as walking routes and offer additional ways to explore the surrounding area on foot.
