Eus sits on a granite hill. A pedestrian village, it is shaped by steep streets paved with river pebbles. Its hillside setting and lanes give visitors a practical framework for finding their way, while its churches, museum and hiking trails reveal different aspects of a stay. If you are looking for hotels in Eus, you can decide while planning your trip whether to focus on village history, trails or the offerings at Domaine Schaller.

Village History, Churches and Museum

The Church of Saint-Vincent in Eus dates from the 18th century and was built on the ruins of the former castle. The Romanesque Chapel of Saint-Vincent was built in the 11th and 13th centuries; it is in the cemetery in the valley, one kilometre from Eus. The chapel has been a listed monument since 28 January 1960. Eus was once fortified; the former defensive stronghold had to fend off French troops in the 16th century and the Spanish army in the 18th century.

Visits to the village and the lower Church of Saint-Vincent are possible in the morning by prior arrangement. Book at least two days in advance and check the appointment requirements before your trip.

The Musée La Solana in Eus displays tools, agricultural machinery and everyday objects. The collection is arranged by themes such as shepherding, fieldwork, ovens and mills, wine-growing, Catalan cuisine, school and crafts. The museum visit therefore ranges from agricultural activities and wine-growing to cuisine, school life and crafts. Its thematic arrangement offers a different perspective on local history from the churches and the former fortifications.

Walks, Springs and Event

The Petite Boucle de la Devèze is a family-friendly walking route starting in Eus, with beautiful viewpoints that reveal the municipality’s geological features. The Chemin des Sources also starts in Eus and leads to numerous enclosed springs and beautiful viewpoints. One difference to consider when choosing between them is that the first route focuses on geological features, while the Chemin des Sources is distinguished by its springs; both route descriptions mention viewpoints.

Hiking trails that start in Eus also lead to the former village of Comes, now in ruins. This is another historic destination for hikes from Eus, in addition to the two routes whose main features are viewpoints, geology and springs.

The Course des Lézards takes place on the last Sunday of August each year and covers nearly 13 kilometres within the municipality. It has been held in Eus for more than 20 years. If you would like to plan your trip around the event, check the exact dates and arrangements for the relevant year.

Visit the Citrus Garden

Domaine Schaller offers a guided tour with a tasting of rare citrus fruits, including picking fruit and immersing yourself in Europe’s oldest garden of rare citrus fruits. Check availability and booking conditions before making plans.
