Antrenas combines horse-riding activities, a very easy hiking trail, a mountain biking loop and insights into the history of a farm. If you are looking for a hotel in Antrenas, these interests can shape your choice of destination: time with horses, a hike to distinctive rock formations, a 23.1-kilometre mountain biking circuit or a glimpse into the changing face of agriculture each offer a different focus for your stay.

Horse Riding and Farm Experiences

At the foot of the Aubrac in Antrenas, the Ferme Equestre du Mazel offers riding lessons, training courses, horseback rides and horse and pony treks throughout the year. Riding lessons and training courses are offered alongside horseback rides and treks, so you can focus on instruction or on getting out and about with horses. Check the arrangements for each activity again before your visit.

At La ferme du Mazel, visitors can tour the farm, meet the animals and their young, and watch milking. These farm visits are also available year-round. The visit offers a glimpse into everyday farming: animals and milking are part of the experience, as is the history of working on the farm.

Hiking to the Rouchats

“Le tour du Rouchat” is a very easy hiking trail in Antrenas. It leads to the large Rouchats, the area’s distinctive rock formations. From the highest point on the route, panoramic views open up across the Marvejols basin, the Truc du Midi and the Truc de Saint-Bonnet, as well as the Causses in the distance. The hike therefore combines striking rock formations with wide-ranging views across the landscape. The trailhead car park is opposite the former school in Fabrèges.

Mountain Biking Loop: Route Details

“Les trois villages – VTT n°5” is a 23.1-kilometre mountain biking loop of moderate difficulty. The route is listed as taking two hours and reaching a maximum altitude of 1,240 metres. It starts at the car park in front of Antrenas church. In terms of difficulty, “Le tour du Rouchat” is very easy, while the mountain biking loop is rated moderate; the two-hour duration refers to the mountain biking route.

Agriculture and Local History

The museum at La ferme du Mazel traces the farm’s history from 1862 through its agricultural tools and equipment. The story spans the use of animal power through to the beginnings of mechanisation. The tools bring this change to life, showing the transition from working with draught animals to the first steps towards mechanisation.

The area’s history also offers a distinct sense of the past. Antrenas was originally a seigneury belonging to the Barons of Peyre, until 1435. Another story is the local legend of the dog Géant: according to the tale, he hunted wolves and protected flocks in 1417. The history of the seigneury and the legend offer different glimpses into the past of the area; Géant remains a figure from local lore.

The Landscape Around Antrenas

From the surroundings of Antrenas village, there are wide-ranging views across the Marvejols valley and of the privately owned Château de Crespin. The agricultural hamlet of Hammeau de Fabrèges lies at an altitude of 840 metres on the mountainside. Together with the views from the Tour du Rouchat, this elevation offers another perspective on the landscape to consider when choosing the focus of your stay.
