Explore Ceyras through a range of interests: church history and architecture, the Lergue River, and cultural and wine experiences. When planning your trip, you can decide whether to focus on historical development, a programme at the Médiathèque or a specific experience in the surrounding area. The places and activities below differ not only in theme, but also in the details that matter when planning a visit.

The Lergue and the landscape

The commune of Ceyras stretches for seven kilometres along the left bank of the Lergue. The river is therefore a prominent geographical feature of the area. One of the named water activities also takes place on the Lergue: tubing involves using an individual inflatable ring. If you plan to try this activity, check seasonal availability before your trip.

Churches and architectural history

The church of Saint-Saturnin has been documented since 804 and is mentioned a total of eight times up to 1153. Its architectural history can also be seen in a later extension: in the 15th century, a Gothic nave set at a right angle was added. A monumental porch opens onto the street at its southern end. Saint-Saturnin thus brings together an early historical record and a much later architectural change.

At the Notre-Dame-d’Hortus chapel, the main structure and the porch date from different periods. The main building phase took place in the late 14th or early 15th century; the large porch was built towards the end of the 15th century. The chapel stands at the entrance to the commune and is clearly visible from the road. This gives you a useful landmark without having to enter the building.

Other buildings add to the area's history in different ways. The Aqueduc de Rieu was built in the late 16th or early 17th century to carry water from the spring of the Horts du Pioch to a large garden. In the 18th century, this garden was called “Le Grand Jardin”. The aqueduct thus represents the link between water supply and garden design. The Tour du Guet de Leneyrac was a watch and defensive tower and formed part of the defensive system of the Château des Guilhem. The Saint-Pierre-de-Leneyrac chapel was probably built around the year 1000 and later became a subsidiary chapel of the church of Ceyras.

Culture and local insights

The Médiathèque La Cave à Livres offers weekly events for children and adults. If you would like to plan your stay around them, check the current programme and opening hours before your visit. The Médiathèque also has a permanent photo exhibition by the Objectif Image 34 club, which is updated regularly. As the displays change, it is worth checking the latest exhibition details.

A vineyard experience and activities

The experience at Domaine de l’Abreuvoir combines a walk through the vineyards with a tasting in the wine cellar. It also includes local tartines and products from the region. This makes it quite different from tubing on the river: here, the focus is on vineyards and tasting, while the river activity involves an inflatable ring. If you would like to book the Domaine experience, confirm the current format beforehand.

You can therefore choose from several different focuses when planning the timing and programme of your trip: historic buildings, regular cultural events, or a specific experience involving the river or wine.
