Montigny-Le-Bretonneux brings together local history and architecture with facilities for cycling, swimming and bicycle services. When choosing what to do, you can consider whether to focus on a historical walking tour, the Les Arcades du Lac residential complex or sporting activities. The historical walk is about 1.5 km long; tours of the Vélodrome National, however, require advance booking.

Local history around Village and Manet

The historical walk comprises ten stops between Église Saint-Martin in the historic center of the Village district and Ferme du Manet in the Manet district. The route is about 1.5 km long and accessible to everyone. With its two named endpoints and the stops in between, the walk can be planned as an activity in its own right.

The Manet area is also connected with an older history: a document from 1206 suggests that the Trappes forest, and thus the Manet area, belonged to the Templars. A later milestone was the municipality's decision on November 26, 1984, to acquire Ferme du Manet. It was subsequently renovated and developed into a cultural and corporate communications center. The permanent exhibition at the Musée de la ville de Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines features the farm in a section devoted to regional history and heritage.

Architecture and heritage

The Les Arcades du Lac complex in Montigny-Le-Bretonneux includes Les Arcades, opposite the artificial lake La Sourderie. The residential complex attracts walkers and visitors drawn by the reputation of its architect, Ricardo Bofill. It is therefore a different architectural landmark from the stops on the historical walk: the focus here is on a named complex and its location opposite an artificial lake.

Another heritage landmark is the Parcours d’art public Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines: Nissim Merkado. Designated as heritage of regional interest, it extends across Montigny-Le-Bretonneux and Guyancourt. Its spread across two municipalities sets it apart from a single architectural complex. The park at Château de la Couldre also offers a distinctive visiting experience: it remains open to the public even though it is home to an EHPAD and a retirement residence with services.

Cycling, swimming and bicycle services

The Vélodrome National has a covered 250-meter Olympic track made of Siberian pine. Activities include taster sessions and beginner track-cycling introductions led by qualified coaches. As the availability of these activities may change, check before your visit whether they are offered on your chosen date.

Tours of the Vélodrome provide access to areas that are usually closed to the public. These include the infield, the Siberian pine track and technical service areas. Tours must be booked in advance. The options on site are therefore distinct: an introduction is aimed at beginner track cyclists, while a tour offers a look at areas that are otherwise closed to the public.

The Centre aquatique du Lac has a 25 × 15-meter swimming pool, a leisure pool, a counter-current swimming lane, two whirlpools and two aqua fitness areas. There are also two slides, measuring 62 and 90 meters long. The different types of pools and slide lengths give you specific points of reference if swimming or water activities are among your interests.

The Montigny-Le-Bretonneux bicycle station is located at SQY station. It rents out 170 standard, electric and folding bicycles, repairs privately owned bicycles and offers 280 secure bicycle parking spaces. This means that rental, repairs and parking are all available at the same designated location. As service details may change, it is advisable to check them before your visit.
