Germigny-l'Évêque offers several ways to plan a stay: forest, the Marne, village history and leisure activities. If you are looking for a hotel in Germigny-l'Évêque, you can decide whether to focus your trip on nature and walking trails, historic sites, or tennis and padel. Several described routes pass through the forest or along the Marne; there are also gardens and historic landmarks in the village.

Forest and landscape along the Marne

The municipal forest of Germigny-l'Évêque covers 20.45 hectares and is part of the large Montceaux forest. The forest areas of Germigny consist of 90 percent broadleaf forest; native oaks make up 74 percent of the trees. These figures describe different aspects: the first refers to the forest areas, the second to the tree population. The riparian forest is also home to a wide variety of animal and plant species. The landscape therefore features both the forest and the river as distinct themes.

Walking trails with different highlights

A 13-kilometer walking trail through the Forêt domaniale de Montceaux starts in Germigny-l'Évêque and is classified as a very easy walk. The “Marne and Canal in Varreddes” route follows the riverbank beneath the remains of the old bridge and continues to the square in Germigny-l'Évêque. The “Tour en forêt et bord de Marne” circular trail runs along small paths between dry birch woods and natural stretches of the Marne; trail conditions may vary depending on the season. The “Balade au fil de la Marne et nature luxuriante” route also follows the Marne and the Forêt domaniale de Montceaux. The route descriptions therefore differ in their respective highlights: one gives the distance and difficulty rating, while another features the riverbank, bridge remains, or the transition between forest and riverbank.

Gardens and history

The gardens of Les Terrasses de Germigny are set on terraces overlooking the Marne and around a small 18th-century château. The terraced grounds, river views and château offer a different focus from the walking trails. The former pleasure pavilion of Baron Ménager is also part of the area's history. Part of the former pavilion has been listed in the Monuments historiques register since 2015.

The present-day village church was built in 1661 after the former church was demolished. A relic of Saint Faron is displayed to the left of the altar in the village church. The pavilion, gardens and church offer distinct historical points of interest, each of which can be considered separately when planning a stay.
