Discover Amillis
Accommodation in Amillis
Amillis offers practical ideas for planning a trip: sacred architecture, walking trails with specified distances, and the landscapes of the Aubetin Valley. Local features range from details at the Église Saint-Pierre et Sainte-Flodoberthe to a grotto south of Amillis. For days outdoors, two walking trails provide different information about distance, ascent and destination.
Church and grotto
The Église Saint-Pierre et Sainte-Flodoberthe has a capital carved in the 11th century. Its vault keystones depict Saint Peter, the Lamb and the symbol of the Holy Spirit. A capital forms the upper part of a column; a vault keystone sits at the apex of a vault. These features can therefore be understood as two distinct forms of design: a carved architectural element and religious imagery in the vault.
The Grotte Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes is a replica of the Grotte de Massabielle. It lies south of Amillis, on the heights of the Aubetin Valley. Along with the church’s features, it provides a distinct cultural point of interest: the grotto’s inspiration is explicitly identified, while the church is distinguished by its capital and the images on its vault keystones.
Walking trails and route choices
The Amillis-Pisseloup circular trail is 14.6 km long, loops through Amillis and starts at the town hall car park. Its route description was updated in August 2026. The route leads to the Grotte Notre-Dame. The route map, updated in August 2025, gives an ascent of 126 metres.
The Les anciens étangs d’Amillis circular trail is 15 km long, rated moderate and also starts at the town hall car park. The two routes are similar in distance; their differing features offer further guidance: Amillis-Pisseloup leads to the grotto, while Les anciens étangs lies in a loop of the Aubetin and offers a view of Amillis. When planning, you can therefore take into account the distance and starting point, as well as each route’s destination and stated difficulty.
The Aubetin landscape and trails
The Basse Vallée de l’Aubetin area includes Amillis and is designated a continental ZNIEFF type 2. It covers 2,376.41 hectares. Its characteristic habitats include wet meadows and tall-herb communities, mesic grasslands, trout streams, riverside vegetation and alder woods. These details describe various landscape features of the area, from meadows and riverbanks to woodland.
The name Les anciens étangs d’Amillis also draws attention to a change in the landscape: the former ponds have disappeared. In their place are now valley hollows used for pasture or crops. The circular trail lies in a loop of the Aubetin and offers a view of Amillis. The area also has numerous rural paths and wooded areas where you can walk or ride on horseback. Those wishing to explore the landscape on foot or in the saddle can use both the specific circular trails and these generally described paths and areas for guidance.
Cycling route and regional produce
The 39 km Les Comtes de Champagne long-distance cycling route connects Provins and Coulommiers and passes through Amillis. Partial operation was reported from October 2025; check the latest operating details before setting out. This places the partial operation in its time context while clearly identifying the connection between the two towns and the route through Amillis.
Another local point of interest is Ferme de Baleine. It sells bread and brioche in Amillis. Visitors can see the bakery and ovens when buying at the farm. The farm also processes some of its grain harvest—wheat, einkorn, rye and maize—into flour using a stone mill. Oils are produced from camelina, sunflowers and rapeseed.
