Athis-Mons offers something for a range of interests: urban and architectural history, aviation, the Seine and a designated natural area. When looking for a hotel in Athis-Mons, the focus of your stay can be a useful starting point. Two audio tours provide specific information about route length and duration, helping you choose topics that fit your schedule.

Audio Tours on Urban and River History

The “Un p’tit tour en banlieue” audio tour is six kilometres long, takes about two hours and includes 22 narrated stops. It is designed as a self-guided visitor experience. Stops include holiday villas, the Ferme de Mons, the banks of the Seine, the Château d’Athis and the HBM garden city. This brings together different aspects of architectural and urban history on one tour.

The “En Seine!” audio tour offers a shorter route: it runs for 2.5 kilometres along the Seine between Athis-Mons and Ablon and takes about an hour and a half. Its theme is the use of the river in the 19th century. Pupils from the CM1 class at École Saint-Exupéry in Athis-Mons created the tour in 2021. The two tours can be compared by their stated distances and durations: “En Seine!” is shorter than “Un p’tit tour en banlieue.”

Buildings and Protected Monuments

The Château d’Athis is protected as a historic monument; it was listed by decree on 19 October 1928. The Chapelle du collège Saint-Charles features pointed reinforced-concrete ribs and stained-glass windows by the Mauméjean workshop. The chapel is also designated “Architecture contemporaine remarquable.” Here, specific construction details meet a recognised architectural classification.

The Église Saint-Denis houses two protected objects dating from different periods. The tombstone of Jean d’Athis dates from the 13th century and was listed as a protected object on 6 April 1979. The organ gallery balustrade was classified as a protected object on 30 September 1911. In the Noyer Renard neighbourhood, meanwhile, the heritage has been recognised as regionally significant since 2001. A puzzle trail explores the neighbourhood’s history and architecture.

Aviation and Cultural Attractions

The Musée Delta is dedicated to aviation, particularly the delta wing and one of its inventors, Nicolas Roland Payen. A visit can also offer a close-up look at a specific aircraft: visitors can board the fourth Concorde ever built. Alongside the history of the delta wing, the Concorde is thus at the heart of a tangible exhibition experience.

The Médiathèque Simone de Beauvoir offers a programme of exhibitions, performances and discussion events, as well as creative and digital workshops. Its range therefore includes both events and hands-on activities. Alongside the historic buildings and aviation, these cultural offerings can provide another point of reference when planning around your interests.

The Seine and Nature

The 18-hectare Coteau des Vignes is designated as a sensitive natural area (ENS). It can be reached on foot from the Parc d’Avaucourt via old stone steps. Its diverse flora and fauna include birds, mammals and amphibians. The area offers a nature-focused experience distinct from the buildings and themed audio tours.

At the Promenade Sinaia, where the Orge meets the Seine, there is an area with benches and semicircular tiered seating. Visitors can look out over the river from here. The seating and the view of the water offer a different perspective on the Seine from the audio tour, which explores its use in the 19th century.
